  1. Is there a way to tell how oil is getting burnt? I have a 3k and it's quite smokey sometimes, normally alot when you are going heavy on the throttle and the engine fairly high in the revs. Is there a way to tell if it is the valves or the rings or something else?
  2. Australia got the 3K-C engine, from memory didn't this produce less power than the other 3K variants? But as has already been mentioned the 4K has over 100cc's more displacement than the 3K. I would say that the higher torque output and peak power at less rpm would be an advantage. I have driven a Ke35 with a 3K and another one with a 4K, the 4K one did seem to have a bit more poke. The 4K one had a 5 speed, although according to my Toyota manual the ratios are the same in the K40 and K50 anyway.
  3. This is way off topic, however because you quoted my post that had actually already made light of the question you are again asking I will help you. The Barra 270T engine, as previously mentioned: 4.0 Litre (3984cc) , Inline 6 Cylinder Engine, which is now available at a Ford dealer near you; produces 270kW @ 5250 rpm. 550Nm of torque @ 2000 rpm. See you are mostly taking into account your own subjective opinion which is complete conjecture.
  4. Agreed it is off-topic: you didn't even address any of my queries. I do like the Jeremy Clarkson quote in your sig by the way.
  5. I can't really understand how you can rationalise what you just said. I can appreciate a V8 engine, just as I can appreciate a I4, they both have different characteristics. Sure you can get a cheap imported hot turbo 4 and beat a few V8's, but most of the time I would say the V8 sounds better and feels better. Again I feel that Ford and Holden have very nice engines as of late, well relatively. The Barra 270T for example or even the 240T, Nizpro are doing wonderful things with this engine, around the 1000bhp mark? Again the Modular V8 available in current Falcons. 32 valve quad-cam, 290kw. This isn't a caveman engine, it isn't the greatest but it's not far off. I am interested in knowing which production Toyota v8 motor-vehicle engine in 1989 rolled off the production line with power matching that of 270kw's, let alone 190kw's. Each vehicle is different, and different people like different characteristics in their vehicle, there is no need to trash that which you do not personally like or understand.
  6. Finally got a picture up. It must be a Borg Warner, I've looked everywhere and can't find a plug. Thanks for the help.
  7. Could someone please tell me where the diff oil drain plug is on a Ke35, I know it might seem like a silly question, but I have been crawling around looking but I can't find it anywhere. I have included an image below of the diff. I have a toyota manual but the diff on my Corolla isn't the same as in the manual... or atleast doesn't look the same. Cheers. Edit> I can't seem to attach an image. But if anyone knows where the plug is, that would be great.
  8. I saw that awhile ago on 5th Gear. If I remember correctly it is a replacement for other security devices like those tyre spikes or boom gates for government departments and such. So if you're driving a loaded truck, at speed into a building perhaps human life isn't high on the agenda of the driver.
  9. I'm not entirely certain, but I thought that 'hi-cam' was the badge to indicate it had the OHC engine in it, when at the time mostly they were OHV.
  10. One of the differences is the colour on the top of the engine. :laff: As has been mentioned check google or club4ag. From memory the Bluetop was the early model that came in rear wheel drive configuration, in the Ae86 for example, the red one is the next model along but is front wheel drive, and finally the black model is the 20V. But as I said this is from memory I could very well be wrong.
  11. Thanks for the comments. Sadly the skidmarks were already there before I got there, "it was that way when I found it." There seems to be alot of information spread around this forum, it will come in handy when I get about changing the motor. Cheers.
  12. Hey, I'm new to the forum, I don't mind old RWD Corolla's, I recently got back into one.
  13. Very nice indeed. I like the colour coordinated spark plug leads. :P
  14. Yes I realise that the pictures I posted were not that of my model vehicle, but rather similar ones. That is the reason why I posted it was for a KE35. Thanks for the input, the Torana one looks fairly close I'm going to follow it up.
  15. Does anyone know if anyone still produces body styling parts for a KE35? Or if they are available anywhere? Something like a front splitter and rear ducktail like those in the images below. Cheers.
