  1. Hey guys, got a broken headbolt stuck on the block whats the best way to remove it, I'm thinking tac weld a nut to the stem of the bolt which is sticking up and use that to unscrew it any other ideas (last thing I want to do is snap the rest of the stem off) Also would anyone happen to have a good condition rocker cover (mine has 2 screws put through it (i assume someone put it there to hold a loose air filter assembly) I also need a Flywheel (if it has already been balanced and lightened even better)...of course I will pay for the items also anyone know where to get some new valves standard size... (I have been thinking of 1mm bigger valves on both exhaust and intake, any bigger and I'd need new seats which will be an annoyance)...
  2. Ok, unrelated to the build question How the hell can you put pics up on here, it used to work before but now...nada anyways, no real progress on the motor since I just got and engine stand today (Decent prices at Hare and Forbes) and slapped it and my engine crane back together after work today, lost some motivation to do anything else since I got home at almost 7pm admittedly it will be a slow build due to work and helping take care of mum (unfortunately diagnosed with ovarian cancer), also university is back from Easter break tomorrow so yeah, It will be slow going but i'll do my best to keep you guys posted with progress in other news...I've selected my cam grind (had a look into camtech cams) CT003528(a)...just mash this...https://www.camtechcams.com.au/toy_4cyl_5k.html
  3. ops...heh I'll post progress as the build comes along, but it will be slow due to my workload
  4. Oh also a quick...yet dumb questions but just to check Extractors from my 4k should fit the 5k i'm building...right? Same deal with Flywheel and with that the clutch as well right (k-50 box) Also, I Hope everyone has had a good Easter long weekend
  5. cool, I'll give them a call on Tuesday Hopefully they can do single orders, some good parts I find require a minimum order number EDIT: one other question Has anyone used AMSOIL 30W Break-in oil, Thinking about trying it to break in this motor
  6. thanks found the pistons are the rollmaster adjustable cam gear have ones for a double row timing chain
  7. ops sorry 7000rpm just checked again your right And my motor had the "D" dish pistons It says STD, 020, 040 I'm guessing this is the part number for the 40thou ones i'm looking for is (I'll check manufacturer part no.) PTO5K40401H
  8. I think kickn5k knew where to get some oversize pistons but forgot what he mentioned
  9. Thanks 7000; for where to get some parts, But I did not find 40 thou oversize pistons, and ACL pistons are damn nearly impossible to find since (if I remember) they went out of business about 4-5 years ago I just asked about shot peening and knife edging because my own curiosity, I've been to car shows and I hear these term but being honest never knew what they meant so thanks for a bit of education Here is picture of the motor on pallet EDIT: Here is a picture of motor on pallet
  10. Anyone know any good places to get chrome ceramic coatings Want to get my extractors, Timing cover, Intake manifold and Rocker cover Coated for the 5k and maybe even fuel pump Also some good Gloss Black Engine Paint (Unless you guys can suggest some other colours)
  11. I'll roll test the pushrods tomorrow but need to get and engine stand I'll take your advice for the crank but I think it's ok Yes Definitely will keep note of the welsh plug size and obviously going to replace them I will be working on the engine mostly myself, I'll be sending it for acid drop and clean, to get it bored for the new pistons...BTW who here said they know where to get some 40 thou oversized pistons and rings?, And sending pistons, crank, all pulleys, connecting rods and any other reciprocating components to be balanced I need to check the exact weight of the Flywheel and send it off to be lightened and clean up if need be (Need to check weight before determining how light to make it) I've head of "shot peening" and "Knife Edging" could someone clarify these to me? @7000rpm Any recommendations for the VRS and bottom end Gasket and seals
  12. No Head bolts? not looking to do studs (or am I confusing myself here) Maybe I'll go see toyota for some NOS ones or something (3 bolts have some pitting in them so not reusing them) EDIT: I'll try put some pics of the motor up tonight
  13. Just got it less than Half an hour ago It's already disassembled and on a pallet although missing some stuff - Oil Filter Assembly (Easy enough to find...I'm open for donation lol) - Dizzy (but will getting one for it but Need it to work with an MSD ignition system) Electric Dizzy - Fuel Pump Anyone know the part number for ARP head bolt for the motor (I've completely forgotten) Anyone know where to get new Pushrods and Lifters (just in case) I think Toyota might have them And what is the most comprehensive (or has the most components) Engine rebuild kit - A set of Crank bearings - Rocker cover gasket - Cam cover Gasket - Sump Gasket - Piston Pins and Snap rings - Valve stem seats well you guys get the idea (I'll get piston Rings once I find the oversize Pistons)
  14. I'll be getting a Redline manifold, I think (by memory) it's pretty close but just in case I'll take it over to pete and ask him if can do so...I've never asked him to do a manifold (most time I get a Redline one and they are pretty bang on) that said I may have a Lynx Manifold lying around
  15. Picked up one some time ago at Bursons (because Extractors)
  16. Yeah as mentioned Pete from Head 2 Head (good bloke) is going to be doing the head, he's the expert an he does a great job I'll be asking him to figure everything out EDIT: I will provide him with a 1 piece gasket to somewhat serve as a template for the port job (since porting something larger than the gasket inlet/outlet is pointless IMO)
  17. right at my aim 100rwhp For the intake ports i'm sending it off to head 2 head in clayton, going to ask to make the port bigger by about a 1mm (all around) then ask if he can do sort of a swirl pattern (I'd bet he'd know more about it...pete i think it was) to help atomise fuel better...could someone please clarify this For exhaust port, they are getting ported about 1.5mm all around and polished, maybe even I'd finish the exhaust side with some 2000 grit wet-sanding to help the exhaust flow with minimal resistance Also a 3,4 or 5 angle valve job to again help flow I think for a street motor trying to get bigger valves will be a bit much...plus money EDIT: how does that seem? ok or does anyone know better?
  18. To be noted: I'm getting the motor (hopefully on Tuesday) thus I don't have it yet, I'm just pre-planning at the moment...I will post pics of the motor as soon as I get it and pull it apart and see what EXACTLY i'm working with, I've been assuming some stuff Also, Sorry kickn5k, - The pistons (I believe) they are the d-dish ones (my bad...I know stupid mistake again refer to me with profanity if you wish)...I will confirm by Tuesday hell or high water - From what I found this is Tommy's cam specs: Cam Lift- int 293 exh 293 Duration ADV- int 284 exh 284 Duration @050-int 228 exh 228 Valve Clr - Both 008 Valve Lift-Both 431 Cam Lift tdc-int 082 exh 060 Phase <) 107 - With the Tighe Cam (i'm yet to contact them but aiming at something similar to the 104 in terms of duration...270 advertised... and Lobe Separation Angle of 110 degrees because 110 is more, generally speaking, drive able and a bit less lumpy plus I like the power curve of a 110 LSA opposed to a 106 or 108 LSA) but other than that It will have more lift (0.432 - 0.442) and of course higher ramp rate because hydraulic grind. - I'm not aiming as high compression ratio as Tommy's but something between 10:1 and 10.5:1 will keep me happy and not run too much risk of detonation with 98 octane (I'm a BP ultimate person) - I've heard Camtech does grinds for 5k's (I will look into that If I get nada from Tighe) Sorry to anyone else for and misunderstanding, I will use this Thread as a build up of my motor as well So I hope to continue the conversations and If people can recommend parts like Pistons from Nason and Precision international (like kickn5k mentioned) etc. will be appreciated Cheers.
  19. Wow, I was thinking 110-130 at the flywheel, but 121rwhp bloody awesome, and I looked at his cam specs...looking very similar to that wade cam you said coln but I won't be porting the head as much as he did, the KE70 i'm dropping it in is going to be a peppy cruiser at most. As I gather parts for the motor I will be asking more questions... And since It's hard to find anyone's full 5k engine build...Would you guys like me to keep updating and posting build progress as I get this engine together?
  20. Another question Would 110 - 130 hp be a realistic figure to aim for or is that impossible for a 5k of the given specs?
  21. Anyone know if ACL has oversize pistons for a 5k, I'm struggling to find any
  22. I'm aware about port* size, but will be porting the head anyways, it's keep it happy with the new cam Edit: Port*
  23. What have other guys done, looking for others who have built 5k So here is my current thoughs - 2 x 40 DCOE Weber carbs (Maybe 45's but will try up sizing the jets on the 40's if necessary) - Get the head ported and polished (most porting will be done to exhaust side if I'm thinking right...someone confirm please) - Shave the head to give about 10:1 - 10.3:1 compression - New cam grind (either based off a Tighe 104 or a Wade grind...coln you have made me consider it) - 2'inch exhaust all the way through (can someone confirm if 4k extractors can fit a 5k) - 1 piece exhaust and intake gasket - Highly considering boring it to fit 40 - 60 thou oversize pistons from ACL...If I can bloody find them - Get the Crank, Conrods, All pulleys and other reciprocating components balanced - Get the flywheel lightened (I'm open to suggestions, need to be street able so i'm think down to 7kg) - Chrome up the engine a bit (timing cover, rocker cover, intake manifold, and maybe extractors) - Double Rod timing Chain (can someone tell me if one from a 3k-b fit, new one to spec of 3k-b...I assume yes but to be sure) - MSD 6A ignition system with a Blaster 2 coil - Maybe Iridium Plugs (Since MSD system can easily put out enough juice to justify...aslo anyone know the part number, like NGK or something) Things I need some consultation for - Electronic Dizzy - Fuel Pump (I think the stock one can deal with it but again unsure) - Do something about Oil Pressure (I've heard shimming the pump about 2mm but have never done myself) I've been told it's recommended to keep the engine happy - ...I'll ask more for when I can remember ...Oh also guys am I missing anything?
