  1. Thanks Banjo/everyone for all the advice once again - I'm in a much better position now to get all my cars sorted. Sounds good Stu, I'm often on Phillip island so I'm around that area sometimes
  2. Yep cyl 4 was the culprit - and I think you're spot on about cyl 4, there was a loss of power occasionally particularly on hotter days - I thought i had a sticking caliper. Truthfully i wasn't paying as much attention as i should of to the Ke30 as i was rebuilding a 12r for my 1973 corona and was expecting it to just survive on basic servicing. I'll definitely get the number for you Banjo, and i'll be doing homework on everything k engine - noted about the 4k as well guys I'll still look at this one this weekend just cause it's already arranged - it might be a good get of jail for the short term or I'll learn the hard way 😂. At the very least i can do all the work myself and not worry as it's not the original motor. 100 is a great price, i live in the Dandenong ranges in Victoria - If anyone knows the area they'll know why i have issues with hills much appreciated all the help everyone, if anyone wants to give me their tips on seating new pistons & rings while we're at it i'll happily take them - that's what i'm doing on sunday!
  3. Love 2 doors, noted about the 5k i wish i could find a 5k easily - I did however prior to this post go through the throes of teeing up to look at a 4k this weekend so i guess I'll see if it's a good runner or a project you never really know until you start it up. Is there anything i should look out for? suppose to have 130 000kms and have seen regular usage i was just going to pull some plugs turn it over look under the rocker cover - all the basic stuff. I hate to ask THAT question again but in your experience do the 4ks go a little bit better then the 3k? some people say yes some people say no difference atall thanks again
  4. Thanks everybody for the advice, good to hear some positivity about the 3k - The 3k has just over 190,000 kms on it, not much for a 3k. Much agreed about the 4k Banjo but i was hoping to get that tiny torque boost with a view to eventually boring out, i live in a hilly area and modern drivers aren't known for patience i'll get some better pics of the head - either way i'll clean it up and hang onto it as it is the original engine for the vehicle thanks again
  5. So my 3kc did a head gasket couple of weeks ago - no big deal until i pulled the head off and realized the entire head and block are rusted out. So I'm just weighing up my options of getting a 4kc for a couple of extra ponies or persevering with the original engine. So my noob questions are: Can i stick my 3k carb on a 4k? as i just bought a rebuild kit for the 3k carb and would like to use it Is this block salvageable? I think the elderly lady never used coolant and the vehicle did alot of sitting apologies photography isn't my strong suite but some of the water-jackets have disfigured from rust any info or advice welcome ! thanks for reading
  6. I live in Melbourne but I will do some googling hopefully something of similar nature exists down here, thanks!
  7. Hi All, I am having trouble finding an Australian production master cylinder for my KE30, it would seem only the Japanese production cyl's are readily available, same said for the brake booster that seems to be few and far between. Any information on replacements that will bolt up / any information on where I can find a direct replacement is very much appreciated, this is my last step for a rwc. Thanks in advance - Luke
  8. Wow I need to remember to check this more, flushed the rad again the noise has changed, is less prominent.. leading me to believe there is probably some air still in there but as long as my motor isn't running dry like i thought I'm happy ! I was worried that it also looked a little dry under the oil cap but maybe i'm being over protective and that's probably a good thing. Thanks all
  9. Hey Guys, Yeah the light doesn't stay on after I've started it, the oil is brand new and as clean as it can be when i check the dip stick, I'll get a hold of an oil pressure gauge as soon as i can, for now she is staying in the garage. However i am hoping you are correct Jeremy sounds like a much better problem to deal with as i changed the coolant when i got it i don't remember the noise when buying the car or before hand, maybe i didn't burp it properly. if it helps the car never gets over half way on the temperature gauge or even to half way when driving, but doesn't go far being unregistered. Thanks
  10. I'll try to explain this the best as i can with my limited knowledge, There is a almost like a bubbling sound coming from the motor.. quite loud when idling on a hill, noticed this on my driveway Same tempo, doesn't increase when reving I suspect my oil pump is failing and the motor is quite starved for oil particularly on a hill. She has always been a little "tappety" but never really had anything to compare with Are my assumptions heading in the right direction? Should i be taking out the pump ? Any help much appreciated, getting ready to go for an RWC so want to get everything sorted best i can Many thanks
  11. I already changed it banjo, it hasn't made much of a different to be honest. Thanks mate but i live in Melbourne haha. Could it be just the cold weather/because the fan runs all the time rather than heat cycles ? it does warm up a tad when driving up a hill as well because it's working abit harder. I really have nothing to compare it to as my daily is a 94 and my folks cars are newer again.
  12. Thanks guys, I was using green coolant, was just concerned when i read up on green coolant diminishing ally heads + Toyota using red etc etc In terms of build up there is build up in the radiator ( as seen in photo) i flushed the system twice yet it keeps presenting itself, not as bad so I'm thinking maybe just as said above adding a flush additive might clean the last of it out. On that the car also doesn't tend to heat up stays quite cold.. yet that could just be the Melbourne weather. Thanks again!
  13. So long of the short, what coolant for 78 KE30? New to this, but want to try to get it right. Any help much appreciated !
