Ke70 Knuckle Arms And Xt130 Struts?
LilSlvrRolla replied to LilSlvrRolla's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Ahh K. I bought 2 pairs of EA rear springs. Which measure 143mm across and the original KE70 front spring measures 126mm roughly. To me, the falcon rear spring looked a little unsafe when I sat the top perch on it. Are they the alloys or steelies? Where abouts are ya? Kings do a pair of springs to any rate and spec you want for $260 and you get them in 10 days. AJPS would not take my order or answer my email's let alone talk on MSN. And when I did speak to him, he didn't want to do custom springs at all for me, too much effort. Takes too long or some crap. Though what hes selling does sound great. Maybe I didn't order enough of it? -
Hey, I was wondering if there are any Corona/Hilux/Pug conversion experts out there? Looks like my XT130 struts lower mounting holes are closer together, roughly around 99.7mm as opposed to the KE70's knuckle arms being 102mm ish. I'm guessing I'll be needing the XT130 LCA and knuckle arms to finish it, if I find any. Theres quite a lack of them at the wreckers in Ballarat... And will they bolt in? Along with finding that out, I also learned that EA falcon springs are way too big for the KE70 front strut? Or is my KE weird? Is it at all easier to go for AE86 struts/hubs/calipers? I'm about 60% done with the Hilux brakes, just need 14" wheels (if they ever come up), landcruiser MC, pads, adjustable proportioning valve and brake lines. I just have to find find someone who does custom springs cheaper than Kings but I know I'll get exactly what I want. Coilovers will only happen if I can find em real cheap... Thanks guys, Ethan

I remember reading that ages ago now. Might have to go have a measure tommorow lol :D That will give me something to think about. Thanks
-
Okays? How does that work out? Wouldn't the diff be pushed to the side or is it not that drastic?
-
Are there any particular items out there you would recomend? Yeah I do quite a bit of searching first, I've seen quite a few questions out there end in tears lol. At least I found the right shocks in the end haha. Thanks

Hey, Just wondering what adjustable panhard rods people fit after lowering a KE70. I'd imagine this has been asked before. Whiteline have an adjustable one for the AE86, but I have no idea if it would be a "bolt on" part. I'd be looking at gettin the most economical one in their range. Really just want a "bolt on" part because I don't want to cut up the old one. Also how much adjustment do I need, the cars going down 2 1/2" Are the Whiteline options a good idea or is there better out there? Thanks very much, Ethan

Ke70 Original Rear Shock Lengths?
LilSlvrRolla replied to LilSlvrRolla's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
I'd send you a pic if I had the little bugger done, I'll be going down 2 1/2" now when I get to it. I ended up with KYB VB-VP Commodore FE2 wagon shocks, don't quote me but there roughly 100mm ish shorter. Now if the KE70 has the same rear suspension as an AE86, Maybe I can get an adjustable panhard rod from one of them? -
Hey, My original idea was actually superlites but I had to buy a laptop for tradeschool :D I'll have to get onto toymod's then because I'd love some MA61's or even something good looking in 14" I haven't been around here enough to catch some MA61's.

Ke70 Original Rear Shock Lengths?
LilSlvrRolla replied to LilSlvrRolla's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Hey, Thanks very much for that :D That sounds about right. I ended buying Commodore FE2 wagon shocks and there way shorter than the originals. Thanks for that. -
Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew the stock, original lengths extended and compressed of the KE70 rear shocks? The cars going down between 1.5-2inches and I want to use the VB-VL FE2 rear shocks which are 517mm extended and 307mm compressed(found on www.ae86drivingclub.com.au) I'd like to know if they are actually any shorter and will do the job properly. Thanks very much, Ethan

What size tyres do you have on the Silvia wheels, I'm guessing there the 15" S13 alloys? I'm starting to sway towards them. Thanks
-
Yeah tried "wheels" and nothing. But I have a price for superlites. don't buy the courier

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone has had a go at fitting steel wheels from other cars such as a U12 Pintara. They have 14x5.5 P45. I have had a go at fitting them to my KE70 and it seems like they will work well (a little tight around the strut without the spacer). Just need 195/55 R14 instead of the lager 195/65 R14 Pintara tyres. The front will need a 5/10mm spacer to clear the Hilux brakes and get it a fraction further away from the struts. The rear seems to fit perfectly. I've run out of options for wheels so I figure this might be a good direction. Even some of the Hyundai wheels look as though they might fit. Its either this or really wait and get a set of the "cheap" $600 alloys from Bob Jane. Another thought was S13 alloys? I can't find any second hand alloys where I am or anything better. Thanks

Hey, Thanks for that. That page is great :P

Hey, Just wondering if anybody knows where to get short stroke shocks for my KE70. I'm ordering some custom kings springs soon and I definitely want to upgrade what’s in the car. I'm in Ballarat, Victoria and all of the suspension places I've been to say that there is nothing available. Is it an AE86 part I should be looking for to put in the rear? And I also want a short stroke insert for the XT130 struts I'm putting in the front. I'm really not sure what to look for on this one. Are there any distributors I should be hassling instead? Thanks very much, Ethan

I can never get on to AJPS lol, never replied to my order. I've given up. But the prices on superlites aren't bad. Might just get them and the rest of my suspension locally.

Ahh, Yes, weight. The brakes and struts are not exactly light, but I'll assume the 20 valve I'm doing all this work for should help. And some of the wheels I have looked at (better suited to a 90's ish car) had a good bit of weight in them. I reckon there might be a fair bit of option when buying the superlites so I'll check into the +8 offset. +25 didn't click with me when I was in the shop, but it sure makes a lot of sense now. Now is bead to bead the surface inside the rim where the tyre is pushed up against when inflated, so I could either estimate with a tyre on or measure it with a tyre off? I had no idea that my diff ratio was 4.3, I'd been meaning to check that one out lol. I've been lazy. But it explains a bit lol.

I had a look into the Peugeot and they came with 15" wheels. What would the affects of the bigger wheels cause on handling? I got a quote for some 15x7 +25mm superlites $220 each and the tyre prices were pretty reasonable. The worst part is the wheels seem easy now lol, and finding coilover parts is getting really hard... No one rings back lol. But if a good pair of MA61 wheels came up, I might have to have a look in to them, and inside them. Thanks very much for all the info as well, there was quite a few things I havent thought of there.

Hey, I'm in the process of upgrading my KE70 front brakes with the Corona/HiLux/Peugeot conversion. I'm just wondering what experiences people have had with wheels on them with this setup, and what size wheels you can fit with the larger brakes. I’m yet to find suspension that’s more drift related so I’ll start with the wheels before the brakes and coilovers go on. I'd happily settle with the MA61 Supra wheels but how well do they go under the guards? I know there 14x7 but not the offset, and it looks like there’s plenty going around with them on. They might also be a little hard to find in Ballarat, Victoria. But I’m happy to drive a bit if any ones selling a set? The other option is 15x7 or 15x8 superlites. How well would 15x8 fit in a KE70 or am I better off sticking with the 7 inch width? Thanks vey much Ethan

Thats excellent. Lookin pretty much like what I've got here. Ill clean them up and get the brakes ready now I'm more sure there right lol Thanks very much.

Thanks for that

Hey, Sorry, I'm new to all of this. Hope Ive posted it in the right spot and all. Just bought a set of "apparently" XT130 struts and a set of HiLux 4 spot calipers (actually off a 4Runner). It had RT133 written on the receipt, but it also had 1985 written on the strut itself? Also they came from a Nissan wrecker which just happend to have a Corona come in. It looked like the right Corona, but I only saw it from behind. It's a little hard to find good photos of the struts or be able to identify them correctly. Would there be a part number on them by chance? Or is there something thats really individual about them? I have no idea, any help would be fantastic.

Hey, Just thought I'd put my little project out there, it’s the first time I’ve had a go at anything like this. I’m an electronics technician with a desperate need to work on a car lol. Pretty well much my first forum post too… It’s a shocker of a KE70. Rough as guts body, with the usual minor rust repairs, boot and wheel arches. I reckon its rear ended someone at some point in its life. Had a dint in the front right guard, now fixed but white. Interiors great, clean and doesn’t smell, very comfy too. But it once was full of hay? Suspensions, well very nautical at the moment. I’ve had better trips in boats. My major problems the 4-KC, I’m just about ready to take an axe to it. I purchased the car off EBay knowing that it had a blown head gasket, I figured for now I could just get it running for 12ish months and thrash around in it. But no luck at all, I’ve put 2 gaskets on it in a month, still wont seal and it’s been skimmed and all, new bolts. I tried not to skimp on the good bits since I snapped a head bolt the second time around, spent a fortune on a lost cause. The idle is horrible. I also broke part of the emissions bit that hangs off the thermostat housing. Either I find the worlds cheapest 4-K for a while or hang on for the typical 4A-GE. The reason for keeping a 4-K in it is so I can work on the suspension, get it nice, low and right. I figure I can get all the good bits out of a AE86 half cut, front suspension, brakes, motor and cross member (please tell me if I’m wrong here?). R31 Pintara diff cut to fit. Stiffer rear suspension. Ill hang onto the 4speed for a while, since its running really well. I’d like a T50 but I can wait. VK-VL fuel pump and setup in the boot. Will there be any engineering issues? I know nothing on this part. What I’m trying to achieve is a fairly economical drifter… I more or less would just like to have a go at it, or even get off my back side and photograph a bit of it (I'm also obsessed with photography). And I’ve fallen in love with Corolla’s since I bought new my 06 Ascent. I’m planning to do as much as I physically can, e.g. learn to weld. I’ve got fairly decent mechanical and electronic skills, yet as of late I’m feeling worse about the mechanical side… I’m at the end of my rope with the 4-K, any input on the project would be fantastic. I'm also guessing you guys have heard this 100 times before lol. Thanks, Ethan Just some average photos in the backyard.

Yep thats exactly where it had it all, and a nice coat of mud to compliment it. Thanks :)

Hey, Just curious if anyone knows where Id find rust on a KE70 and whats not repairable, and if theres any other hidden problems I don't know about the car in general yet lol. I'm trying my hardest to buy a KE70 at the moment and not having much luck but I have found one to look at tomorrow. I'm after one for a 4A-GE conversion and just to do up and tinker with in general Sorry I'm new to all this forum stuff, Thanks, Ethan
