-
haha that's the way to work on a car, plastered and with the person who least wants your car in the driveway... well, thats my mum anyway...haha The motor's sort of on hold at the moment, while i get the body sorted out... I also got my Solex locks today...I have mixed feelings about them (Safer? or just a reason for theives to vandalise?) but they look the part anyway...so we'll see what happens Does anyone know where to get Crystal Headlights for a ke20? saw them on my mates HG Holden...they look great... cheers people

Hi all, wow...what a weekend! Me and my mate Adam got started on the teardown, FINALLY! i couldnt beleive how much dirt there was in all the little nooks 'n' crannies... Here are some pics: Fist one is My ke & Adam's 4door 323(ca18det project) Adam is ditchin his '77 5door 323, as he found a overrated 2door...with rego too... This thing is an absolute burnout DEMON! it just goes sideways anywhere....hahaha here's a few snaps: hopefully this APEC weekend, i'll finish off the stripping down... then take it down for the rust... KEEP ROLLIN'...

Gday fellow rockers'n'rollas... UPDATE! Today i went to a top secret workshop to have the rust looked at, and quoted for welding. The sum is looking good, so i'll be handing over the car in 2 weeks time. After the rust is done, it will be over to a good mate, Joe(PIN08U) @ Auto Body Craft for the paint. Will be hit with a flat(non-metallic) 2k paint, aside from the engine bay and boot. Will keep it like that untill all the motor/driveline/tub/engineering work is done...probably 1-2 years or so... then i'll decide on a bare metal colour. So i'm off now to start taking the windows out and so forth... will keep you posted. Cheers, Marky

Thanks for the support guys... any work getting done to the motor i will post pics... The motor will be going in around Jan/Feb '08...(After re-rego) from now till then it will be saving and getting the rust done on the car... Again, thanks for your support guys...I'll let you know all the nitty gritty as i go along... Until next time, KEEP ROLLIN! MarkM

mate, have you used the gt3076R on a 4age before? i'm guessing not... well a certain workshop in Sydney "Mick's Motorsport" has... I have spoken at length with Mick about the use of that particular turbo and he's done much research and testing of the package... He seams to think that it is perfectly suited to the 4age, for someone after a bit more then the t28 can offer...(upwards of 400hp) to be totally honest with you, this will be the first sub-1000kg car with as much power that i have ever driven... the lag on the gt3076r is not as bad as you think...3 weeks is a bit steep, because once my 0.0001 second of lag is over, i will be catching up, if not 3 carlengths infront of most.. I did consider using a t28 for about 6 months prior to buying my motor, until speaking to GCG and Mick's... Nothing beats research and testing, which i'm assuming most of you have not done on the gt3076r with a 4age... But others have (Mick's & GCG)... The money needed to put into it isn't much more than if i wanted to do a t28 setup properly anyway... Make no mistake, I am no daddy's boy living off handouts...so money is always a concern... but money just means more time, and i can wait... Please if you have actually done research and testing on the above mentioned combination, please post up... BUT, if your words are those of criticism with no basis, keep them to yourself... I will keep you posted on the rest of the build, KEEP ROLLIN! Mark M

i know what u mean jordan, money takes away troubles (not all of them)... it's tempting to go t28, and save some dollars and take the easy way out... if i wanted to be like every other bloke, id go t28... but time is not a concern for me, this project is what i want, and i will finish it... sometimes i do throw the cover over it and forget it for a few weeks, when i have the shits... people sayin it will never get finished just geez me up even more... it will be so sweet to have it running...a goal worth waiting for... thats a pity that ke20 is being sold...another discouraged enthusiast oh well, it's back to the workshop for me... thanks for the input.. KEEP ROLLIN! i know i will....
-
yeah I'm looking at around that number just to get it on the road... thats motor, box, diff, fully running and engineered with brakes and suspension... all part of the master plan.. What do you mean it may never get on the road? do u mean i'll not finish the project, or it won't get engineered? stay positive boys, that's all i ask...positivity and knowledge, that's all anyone needs to finish a project.. cheers
-
it's never too young to start aye..haha yeah power to weight was a goal of mine, as well as being able to get it engineered... it will be hard to keep straight, i know that, and to keep it down... but i'm a pretty conservative driver on the road, aside from the odd fang... "cars don't kill people, people kill people..." a wise saying... I know i have much research and practice to do in driving this car right...but the best way to learn is to DO IT! HAHAHA Bommo's and skylines wouldnt stand a chance...but on the street my car will be just for show/sleep... and to get people scratchin their heads... talking about stripping it and taking it off the road, When i'm done with my power advntures with the 4age, i will be taking on a new project...same car tho... I want to do a 2jz or 20b turbo in the ke20.... just for something big for track only...but thats years away from now... KEEP ROLLIN!

Thanks for the input guys, TRUST ME, the brakes and suspension was first on my mind before i chose a motor.... I will probably be going big disks all round and all the upgrades needed to run them... suspension is being taken care of by Allsprings @ Moorebank...and diff shudder is first on my list of "get rid of's"... I know that on the street i won't be able to use 500hpatw.... that's why for the street it will be tuned down to 200-250... getting the power to the ground is a main concern of mine, and when it's finished i guarantee i will be getting it down.... I know that a good dyno figure doesn't mean good 1/4mile times... but it does when the power gets to the ground properly, which is my goal... What does age have to do with quarter mile times? How old r you beerhead.... listen guys, everybody has different goals with their cars... but i REALLY appreciate the advice, and information, please keep it coming... KEEP ROLLIN MarkM
-
wow that engine bay is extremely detailed...hopefully mine will be as clean as that... my plan is realistic, and will be still drivable...and i guess my plan is my plan....everybody has different tastes... once the car reaches the power i want it to, then i'll tune it down for street use... I want to have the motor/box/diff/suspension/brakes all finished and running good power and reliability... then just do the looks side, with paint, rims and interior...

thanks for the info Jordan, i haven't bought one yet... yeah, iv spoken to GCG Turbo's and Mick @ Mick's Motorsport who is actually running a gt3076R on a 4agte... he thinks it works well on the motor and is good for all around performance...lag will always be more then a gt28... I'm well aware of the other mods needed when i hit such a big power level, including engine internals and body mods... Before doing any rebuild i will just be running it on 14-15 psi with stock internals... Mick made: 250hpATW with 15psi stock internals and gt3076r and 450ATW with 28psi, pistons, rings, copper headgasket...with gt3076r i'll be happy with 200hp atw for now, till i rebuild it... i'll be looking at the supra w58 box and minitubs later on aswell... keep the info coming mate, thanks for the input...BTW id love to see your celica one day as my best mate is building a ca18det in a 70's 323... KEEP ROLLIN!

HAHA i used Windex, but it made it look worse...hahaha last time i take tips off "my big fat greek wedding"...hahah it looks sweet tho...thinking of finding a havanna gold metallic, with a pearl through it... thanks for the support JC, even if it is constructive criticism... KEEP ROLLIN!

thats a good price...i think odyssey are better value for money... i took some pics today, the car is looking mad, gave it a wash, wax... I'm thinking of sticking with the colour havanna gold...looks sick in the sun...
-
hey jc, yeah iv seen theyr website...they have some great stuff... in the end it will be a choice between optima and odyssey... theyr both great batteries, it will just come down to price i guess... cheers guys.. MarkM
-
Thanks guys, Will be running a Microtech (not sure which model) with igniter box & individual coils. lets not forget that the rear housing on my gt3076r is 0.48ar... it's going to come on much before 3g... the only downfall of having the smaller turbine housing is that boost is limited to just over 30psi... and power limited to the 450hp mark... The gearboxes i'm well aware of being fragile, but the box is cheap and i quick easy fit for street... when i get to the strip i will be using a corona 4 speed... it's all good to use a small turbo like a t25...it will spool up heaps quick, very streetable power... BUT...I'm after big hp...eventually in the 450hp range... but i'm after 200-250hp ATW with that turbo on 15psi... KEEP ROLLIN! MarkM

Point taken JC, What kind of batteries are Dry Cell? I was looking at an Optima or Exide Deep cycle...but they're not Dry i don't think... Yeah fair enough, that's a good system, but as you said ur not looking to run big power... I might even go for 044 pump... 910 will do it, but if i ever choose to go sr20, big power, i will need the 044... Thanks heaps mate, MarkM

Thanks for the tips JC, I haven't guesstimated (i ruv ur engrish) the distances yet, will probably do it this weekend... I'm in the process of getting a new sump, get the oil oulets welded in and will modify it if need be... I was thinking about the flex in the firewall, i've heard many things about it...was planning to support it somehow and a welded plate sounds the go... What kind of fuel system did run? I'm probably looking at Surge tank, Lift Pump, Bosch 910...also bigger injectors to support up to 500hp, can u reccomend any? I'm keeping the piping basic in the boot, but going braided in the engine bay... Do u know anything about mounting a battery in the boot? Again, thanks for ur input brother...KEEP ROLLIN cheers, Mark M

Hi all, trying to save some dowlaz at the moment, so I'm going to start on the rust spots... going to sand them back...cut & clean it up and then bring it in for welding, as i don't know how and also i want a professional job... then i'll prime and spray it myself... the following spots need attention: -any bubles i can find will be sanded down and investigated. -bottom of both front guards (looking for another RHS one as mine's damaged) -bottom of both doors -lhs rear guard at bottom -bottom rear window seal The gutter rails will need some attention too, i'll probably sand them back and leave the cutting to the welder. After doing that i'll just do a quick respray of the car, in the standard Acrylic Havanna Gold colour...it's so hot... :o I want the rust out of the way so i don't stress if it gets left in the rain and so on... Anyways just thought i'd fill u in..will post pics as soon as i get started! As always, input much appreciated... KEEP ROLLIN! :D MarkM

That's some very nice power mate, a mate of mine is putting together a CA18det + 70's Mazda 323... RWD oldschool is the g o! What are your future plans for the car? KEEP ROLLIN!

Hey Guys and Gals! Just got some happy snaps of the engine mounts and t50 gearbox, thought i'd post them up... Mounts: T-50 Gearbox: The project is slowing down at the moment, as i'm trying to save more money... Before Rego (Jan 18 2008), I want to have done: -Suspension setup -Front Brakes -Most of body/panel rust...No respray yet... Waiting till after January (Rego time) to put in the motor/gearbox, so then i'll have one year to get everything right. Don't want to be half finished and have the rego come up... KEEP ROLLIN!

Hi there Chris... Mate ur car is looking FAT! I love what you've done with it...tru class brother... I'm building a ke20 (4agte) myself, and i just wanted to know where you got the oil filter relocation kit from? I need one because, firstly room for the turbo and manifold, and also, the original filter adapter is in the way of my mounts...has a lil thing that points down, but does nothing... Any help would be appreciated mate, Keep up the great work Chris, KEEP ROLLIN MarkM
