  1. Hay all, after how long now, i've finally got the ball rolling on my levin! I've got the engine (Silvertop) some really all I'm doing is swapping the engine, shes a bit on the smoky side, and i was told the price to rebuild and it was in the 2500 - 3000, so i decided whats a cheaper option.... i know, i'll get a new engine, X japan low K's, really clean inside! so I'm happy. So now all i have to do is swap it over! Hopefully its easy! haha, and hopefully the Compression test is higher than my current engine, with 120PSI in each piston. Now all i need is a new tail-light, i passed someone, and then he started driving up my ass, then rammed me then passed me and carried on driving like normal! CRAZY PEOPLE MAN! needless to say i got his number plate. anywho, anyone know where i can get tail-lights from?

  3. Hhehehe, i didnt mean it was diesel, it just sound like a diesel the way it is running! So 500ish + Freight and stuff. Are you north island or south? i live in the BOP area, so i don't mind going for a drive to pick it up! Are u able to get all the gaskets and seals i would need aswell? As for this VVT pulley, how could i test to see if its that? Like, i held my foot on the gas steadly and went from 3grand up to 51/2 without noticing a difference. would there be a power difference or anything?? Would that explain that sudden power loss in that drive i was having against that honda? ta

  5. No I'm not having overheating prob's i was just told to get a 1.2bar so i can puch the car alittle harder. So in order to remove that extremely annoying tick from the engine I'm gonna have to replace the cams? Or what? shims? Engine!!! lol so who out there know where in new zealand i can pick up a blacktop head and pistons? and a link i need the link to run the head and pistons right rev? Gremlin

Ok, so 4-ages don't have lifters.. cool... what do they have? what would make the tinking, tapping sound? it sounds like a diesel truck. thats how loud it is. and its at its loudest after the engine is warmed up (oil thins out). and to replace this, well, noisy little... *enter word* how much would it cos? I'm gonna do a work over on me engine cos i need to replace a gasket, and i though i would kill to birds with one stone, you know pick it up and throw it again! LOL, no, but replace the thing that is making the noise and the gaskets. (inner and outter) save time and probly money. "silvertop with b/t rods and head etc running link. youll get plenty of grunt like that" K, so can you point me in the direction of Blacktop rods and where i could pick up a head? as for the link, thats gonna take a few months, the industry i work for pays me peanuts. i'd need to get the ECU before i through that combo together though right? I was told by a friend to get a 1.2bar radiator cap. to raise the presure and lower the boiling point of the water. recommended or not?
  7. Well, a quick update... Yesterday, i had tools everywhere, trying to find what i thought was an air leak. I'm really beginning to think about getting a bicycle. might glue a turbo onto it... anyhow, i thought it might have been the source of all my power loss. so i had the blenum? blenium what ever its called off and was looking for signs of leakage (btw thats where after an hour of searching i decided it was coming from) so i decided to give up and put it all back together. well, i either fix the problem or transplanted another engine without knowing it. but it goes now. like the powerloss is gone! :thumbsup: Now, to rematch that bloody integra. OOOh, and yet another close call with the local authorities. Took off down the road, sweet, do the speed limit may I add, came off my road and got stuck behind a lady doing 40 on straights and 20 around corners.. The worst part is I was the 4th car behind her.. So I'm waiting and watching the other guys pass, then its just the old lady her friend and me. After giving the old lady's friend a few chances to pass I gave up, there my straight and I'm taking it.. Down a gear and off I go, past the lady's friend and passed the old lady.. And zoom into a 60km zone. I zoom around the corner at 100+ and there it is, a cop.. Coming the other way. Brakes go on and within 2 seconds I'm at 60km's. but that's not quick enough. I do a quick check and the cop is braking. So thinking screw it I'm already caught at 100, I speed up 2 80 and dart down a side street while out of view. Hiding behind a garbage truck.. So I'm sitting waiting for the cop to go passed. There goes the old lady that I passed in the first place, SWEET the cop didn't turn around! So I go to take off and see the cop turning into the side street I'm in. gutted.. I grab my licence and hold it up near the window ready as she drives passed, she drives down a little hill (out of view) to turn around so she can pull up behind me, 40km over the speed limit is a $450 fine and loss of licence.. But after she didn't show up behind me within a reasonable amount of time (a minute if that), I decided to make my escape and took off. But now I do watch my speed now. So really the cop won… -Gremlin-
  8. K K K, i wanna again get some help. I have a silvertop 20v 4a-ge, and i wanna do a few mods to get more out of it. But then i was also thinking of, buying a blacktop doing a re-build and throwing that in instead. See the things a blacktop has over a silver is : No AFM, VVT... is that it? i know pratically nil on cars, so rebuilding a blacktop... big step. firstly what do i need to know about the things. secondly how much is it going to cost? thirdly is it worth it? forthly where in new zealand can i get one, and how much would it cost me. and is it possible to get one already reconditioned? revhead, ive talk to you about this before, can you help me again? Atm I'm having Speedfactor work me up a quote for. *New lifters. *full perfomance exhaust. *fuel pressure regulator. *dropping the pod into the gaurd. *new fuel filter. *removing my bloody AC, doesnt work and is useless. so I'm waiting to see how much all thats gonna be. I was told to get an aftermarket ICU (LINK) and drop my AFM and use MAP. But is it worth buying a Aftermarket ICU just for that? or would i be better to buy a blacktop? So many questions.
  9. "Research Octane Number" OH MY GOSH! now it all makes sense! lol, ive work in a pertol stations for the last 2.5years. and only now find out what RON stands for.. LOL, and before you say it. no i don't get bloody discounts on fuel.. i should i got through enough! but i don't. "this is how come half the people in the world think unleaded is better than premium, because their car is still running stock ignition timing" YES OI! exactly!
  10. I was tlking to someone today, and he said to run my car on 20Lt 98 and 20Lt av gas. is that stupid. Thanks for your reply's, and yes the octane boost was 20$, and i know.. i just finished work, and decided to take it easy on the way home. And you know what.. i was fricken lucky. a street i normally speed test my car down (like once in a blue moon, and its a country road) i was going to but decided not to, anyhow, theres this little corner that has a tree on the inside, anyhow, you can take the corner at 140 no sweet and still stay on your side, but as i came up the the corner what was around the bend? tell me.. go on.. a cop.. so i didnt speed test 2day. luckly. lol, would have really pissed me off. for ages ive had a tapping in the engine, makes it sound somewhat like a diesel. could you tell what could be the route cause. and would this have much to do with the power loss? cause the engine, whilst idleing sounds alot.. more. well, louder tonking, ticking. i don't know, but its noticable different. A mate of mine done a ICU diag on the spot after the race. but said it came back fine. anyhow, thanks for all the replies! :dance:
  11. So, i've made a list. Lets start. Me car is a Toyota Levin 1991, AE101, with a 4A-GE silvertop 20v Quad throttle, 1.6lt. in it. Its been running really well, like really well, like... you know toyotas! but theres a few things that have been bothering me. #1 the speedo My speedo seems to be very indecisive. and the problem its self is indecisive. When I'm cruzn along my speedo kindda dips. like sitting on a hundred and look at the speedo, suddenly its all over the place 80, back to 100... the odd thing if the vehicle is still warming up its worse, like dips at 70 or 80. and the faster i go the worst it seems to get. it could show 50km and I'm going 130. its an odd problem that I'm getting annoy with.. anyone have any ideas? #2 the engine Recently i raced a Honda integra 1.6 VTec, and it was close. but he still won buy a couple of feet. anyhow, my mate that has another honda integra 1.6 standard "Auto" wanted to race. so, giving into peer pressure (yeah right) i raced him... SWEET, still coming out of 1st gear and hes behind me. 2ND gear, hehe, hello back there. 3rd, where the hell is the finish line?, i was getting close to 6.5grand, and change to 4th. sweet, left him in my dust and unburnt fuel.. hahha, thats when it happened. power loss, revs started dieing, changed down to 3rd, trying to get the speed back up, and i couldnt get it passed 5.5grand. it just wouldnt... next thing a honda wizzes past with a stun look on his face. and theres the finish line.. so i slowed down the the posted speed, and tried to figure out what when wrong.. i dropped it down a gear and tried to catch up, but i had nothing... no gutts. no power. so basically i lost my power as i was climbing through the revs suddenly i was climb back down, dropped down a gear and wasnt able to climb back up. I don't remember any bangs, pops, any out of the ordinary behaviour, my car just choked basically. Now, the only out of the ordinary thing that happened, is normally i would run 98 but money no longer growing on trees, i was topping it up with 91 from the gas station i work in.. and there wasnt any noticeable difference. so i decided to put 91 in it when i filled up again, and did so.. but from another petrol station.. and it run like.. well, crap. so i through an octane boost in there just to make her happy. But thats all that was different. than any other given day. Now the car seems alittle powerless. like its rolling around with the handbrake on. anyone know of anything that may have happened? and how to fix it? i do have a few other problems like rear sway bar bushes (i hope) and the normal noise tappets/lifters (which ever) Thanks everyone anyway.

  13. Haha, its an outta CV. ive noticed since getting new mags, (17's) the CV is clicking like its on heat, not when I'm going straight forward, but yeah. I found a guy 2 help me do it anyway, hes a mechanic! ah, the wonderfully small world of new zealand, everyone know something! lol, and someone! Anyhow, i do have a front wheel drive! am i one of a select few? AM I RARE? lol, no, I'm comman! lol! thanks for the replies! Oh, why on earth would i feel a preformance decrease going from 15's to 17's? is this normal? Man, I'm scared of the fuzz. :greenbounce: Just until i get my full liecence and my car Re WOF'ed.   15. It seems the noise is gone now! LOL its crazy it is! So how much are the TRD stickers then? hahah, i should get some quotes on mech's to do the work on my before i thinks about stickers. LOL.. LOL, i also need to look into a new CV joint! LOL Woooow, i brought a lemon. LOL but i was only 3,250.. and i love it!
  16. toyota sell TRD!? Cool, but how do i go about gettng one? can i just go into a toyota dealer and say "Gimme a TRD Sticker funny little man!" or yeah? As for regasn my aircon, i think there might be a hole in it somewhere, i mean, for the gas to come out... the squeaking isnt my belt, i wish it was, I'm still tring to figure out where its coming from, its somewhere, its a different squeak to a belt slipping.   17. I just started my car today to find i now have a squeak under the bonnet! :thumbsup: I also want to take my Air conditioning out. is this hard? Mainly because there's no gas in it. + I don't really think i would ever use it. Anyway, how much *dismantling* does this entail? :dry: Oh well, I'm gonna go and investigate! and then put my wiper blades back on.... long store.   18. *BLINKS* Mr Revhead, REALLY! THATS SO COOL! :( :thumbsup: I living in Tauranga North Island, (BOP) *HEAD EXPLODES* :) YOU ROCK! So, where are you abouts? Are the pistons expensive? What about the ticking? do 20v 4A-GE have Lifters? Are Replacement Lifters Expensive? Where is my oil going? LOL, i never mentioned that did i.. My oil seems to be... well, Vanishing. I'm using Castrol Protect 15w40, and i seem to be topping it up alot. like once a fortnight. (it's about 1/2). I havent seen any leaks anywhere. nor puddles of oil! but it still vannishes. OOOooh, I'm getting excited! lol. What spark plugs should i be using? :P Dang bout the alltezza's, i can get some custom made. but yeah. i found one business that said it would cost 1,000 for some. but yeah. ;)

LOL New Zealand, so small and cute! :( Hmmm, i wonder how much it would cost to get one over 2 here. :thumbsup: HEY heres a question. Does anyone know where the wire that supplies the Starter motor Solinoid power is on one of the standard Levin ECU's? also, Alltezza Lights for a Levin, can you get them over there? anyways, I'm gonna go and price some bitz and Pieces.. *Link Plus* ECU, and find where i can get those pistons. :P sorry, for the crazy typing, my keyboards going completely nuts. wireless. its typing like I'm holding the button down... crazy things! :) :ADDED: True Super Jamie. they did take 3months to put a Turbo'd SR20DET into my m8's S13 Silvia. He told them to give up and he'll take it now. 2days later he found the problem! turns out the computer was on the fritz. but hey. lol.
  20. Haltech hmmm. i guess the thing to do is ring up a Company and ask em. Ok, i just rang around. and no-one's really seen or heard of Haltech. Link Plus It is. what do you think i would be looking at to get the pistons.. and an engine re-build? Plus do the Valves have to be upgraded to handle all the extra pressure? what else... nething else? ta Gremlin
  21. I jumped on the phone to my m8 after reading the forum, and told him what it said. He asked my why a Motech, why not a Link Plus which does the samething but is alot cheaper. now I'm asking! LOL, whats the difference? I had a quick search but didnt find much. Also, the whole Air flow meter thing, is that change-able to the other, better one? or whats better?

I actually wondered if there was something wrong with my ECU, cos, normally when i drive around its fine. everythings good! but Randomly the little *PUT YOUR BLOODY SAFTEY BELT ON* light shows up, when i start the car when its not in (the saftey belt) but it does it when it wants to work. But normally when that light comes on, once the cars warmed up, i have ship loads of power, and it runs overrated as! I'm mean i don't know if its just the feeling i get at the time. but yeah... i don't even know if the ECU goes anywhere near the dash lights,. but yeah! i've only noticed that now. Now, where can you get these Motech ECU's? I've dropped a bottle of Injecter cleaner through the tank and it had very little change. Is there another way to check which injector is doing it? or yeah. Once i've "rebuild 20v with 4agze pistons. and throw on a turbo." will i have to get a better Fuel pump? Also, where on earth can i get all these part that i will need from? I'm still getting my feet in the car buying bitz for place world. ta -Gremlin-
  23. "thats not very good bang for buck" yeah, your right! i just liked the idea of putting an engine that doesnt TICK in. Talking about that. does anyone know what the heck it is? lifters? Also, theres a squeeking coming from my rear somewhere... (LOL, i would word it better but its funnier that way) anyway, if i put the handbrake on a little it stops squeeking. is it something to do with the brakes? or could it be a wheelbearing? ta.   24. That sounds interesting.. Money at the moment isnt an issue, I'm guess gathering idea's.. Firstly i better fix something up. I don't really want to wheel spin in 5th, i was just being over the top. ;) tell me a little about the ae101 gze, if i decide to turbo it later on, is that more expensive? the 3sgte sounds... interesting to say the least. will that actually fit into a levin without any hassels? I did alittle search in the local area's and there arent any 3sgte forsale and the moment. so that probly a good thing. :) I also wanted to put a body kit on me car! but i can't really find many places that will do it for an AE101. up here, unless its custom. Shall i wait until i get a new engine and get a new exhaust? basically its completely standard. nothings different. well, there is the pod filter. but thats just a podfilter. anyhow thanks again! :lol: BTW Jason, ahem "GO GIR!" -Gremlin-
  25. Thanks for the reply's. It isnt super charged, no. i was thinking about a super charger, but then i don't really know. I heard that you can get a black top 20valve imported for $1500. I thought that might be a good idea. as in adds 11kw+ to the power. I was liking the idea of a turbo, but is there a point on putting one of a FWD vehicle? anyway. Also, i've been read the Street machine and Proformance Cars mags lately, and found an add for (E)lectric (W)ater (P)umps. But i don't know. Anyhow, thanks again! all. How much would need to be done to turbo a 20v 4a-ge? ta Gremlin
