  1. I've been poking around in the dash of my KE35 and have discovered a few wires that aren't connected to anything. I've got a Gregory's Corolla 1970-1978 manual but my wiring doesn't match anything in the manual. It's an Australian built 1978 KE35 CS Hardtop. The main reason I'm asking about them is cause I plan on installing factory A/C at some point and will need to know what wires to hook up. Does anyone have the correct wiring diagram for this Rolla? I've attached some photos of the wires I'm talking about. The first wires are dark green and dark green with black trace and they are between the fuse box and the steering column. The second wires are between the AM radio and the instrument panel and are red, red, black with white trace, black with white trace, white and green. The 2 black with white traces are looped together. The third wire is a blue with white trace and comes from the heater/fan. The forth wires are light blue, black with white trace, black with white trace, and red. and are just above the heater/fan.

  3. I was the only KE at the Toymods cruise last night, so sad and the corolla badge on the drivers side broke one of its pins when I washed it. On a lighter note, I cleaned all the stuff that was in the boot after water got in there and also fitted a KE70 center rear view mirror so I had a dimmer. This afternoon I'll give it an oil change and a new oil filter. I'll pick up a new badge from a wrecker next weekend and maybe look at doing some rewiring of the stereo too. As soon as the Lux is rego'ed again and I'm happy I won't get any more hassles with it, I'll start restoring the 35. I want it done right from the get go so it'll be fully stripped, sanded, any rust hole welded not bogged and a full set of new rubbers (Rare Spares does a kit for over $700 so will try Spectrum Rubber and shop around). I'll be keeping it white with the same stripes down the sides too. Also on the shopping list is a set of blinds and a visor for it and an up to date sound system. Nothing too flash, just a middle of the range Pioneer headdeck, Soundstream 6x9"s an amp or 2 and a pair of 10" subs.
  4. Went to Pick 'n' Payless today and picked up a new washer bottle and a KE70 center rear view mirror with the dim/tint switch. No more being blinded by the car behind me at night, yay! I think I worked out what was in the empty slot above the gear shifter. I found a center console that had a Phillips cassette player in it. I didn't buy it 'cause it was a bit rusty but at least I know what to look for now. Can anyone tell me what options the CS came standard with and what were available? A scanned brochure would be good.
  5. I've neglected this for a while so the next couple of posts are from my Toymods thread. Couple of photos. The new seatbelts The original center console. There's just a couple of differences between this one and the one that's in there at the moment. The shape is slightly different and the space above the gearshift boot is different. I'm curious as to what was in the space on the original console. It had a silver lined surround. The new one is an all black storage space.
  6. Well an update is well overdue. I can't provide any pictures yet though. I've been off for so long because my hard drive failed, so I've lost all my car stuff I had. I got rid of the crappy Kenwood headdeck I had installed and replaced it with a $650 Pioneer I got for $320. The dashlights turned out to be the AM radio. It turns out if I reconnect the green wire (illumination) to the radio it shorts in the radio and blows the fuse (taillights). I installed a new center console that I got from Jip (thanks mate) and even though it's not the correct replacement it looks a lot better then the old one did with the missing piece. I also got a clock from him and was able to take the motor out of it and putting it in my clock, so it works again, and I replaced the passenger sunvisor with one from Jip too. The center rear view mirror that I got was more perished then mine so I put 2 small screws through the back of mine to tighten it up and stop the rattle for now. I'll look at replacing it with one with a dimmer later on. The old rolla wound up being the vehicle I drove from Brisbane to Sydney and it made the trip relatively well. I just sat on 80 - 100 the whole way and did the trip over 2 days instead of 1. The only problem that it had was it blew a heater hose about 1/2 an hour out of Glen Innes. I was lucky a farmer came along on his tractor and had some hose I could have. I then spent the night in Tamworth, and got a better fitting (there is no direct replacement for the one I blew) hose when I arrived in Richmond. I bought 2 new seatbelts as well seeing the old ones were starting to really take their time retracting. The brand and part number is Klippan K1512. They're not a direct swap but are very close. I used the original covers and top hanger to make them look more original and the plugs require the mounting point to be bent at 90 degrees. That's it for now. Cheers Dave
  7. Got the dash lights working again. It turned out to be the dimmer dial. The clock is dead now to.
  8. I found out why the AM radio wasn't working. It was because the last owner had started extending the wires to the back of it and never finished, so I removed his extentions, then decided to install the cheap Kenwood headdeck that came with the rolla. I installed it on the shelf under the glovebox with a fused distribution block. The Kenwood is really terrible and I'm shaw the speakers should be replaced seeing how much dirt is in the voice coils so as soon as I get to Sydney I'll be doing a complete stereo install. It'll be something along the lines of a middle of the range Pioneer headdeck, probably a pair of Soundstream 6x9s, a 10" sub of decent quality and a 4 channel amp of good quality to drive the speakers and subs. I also had a problem when I put the dash back together and that was that I now have no dash illumination so I'll look into this tommorow.
  9. The woes of christmas time and everyone being on holidays. My laptop and external harddrive case are both stuffed and I won't be able to replace or fix them until I get to Sydney on the 9th. So I hope everyone had a merry christmas and has a happy new year. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet any of you guy and gals around Brissie but hopefully I'll get to meet a few of you Sydney-ites next year. The 35 now has a new mechanical fuel pump and will be putting a rebuild kit through the carbie hopefully before the new year. I wacked in some spare 6x9s to fill the holes on the parcel shelf but I doubt that they will work 'cause of all the dust in the voice coils (very scratchy). The dash is currently half out so I can install a cheap Kenwood headdeck that came with the rolla. The last owner must have been very rough when he tried and failed to install the headdeck 'cause the lower half of the dash and both A pillar covers have cracks and spits in them. The lower dash I'll glue back together 'cause the cracks can't be seen but I'll have to replace the pillar covers. I've sent some PMs about parts I want to get before I head to Sydney. Cheers till next year Dave
  10. G'day guys, I'm not dead or anything yet, I haven't had the time to get online 'cause I was trying to get the Lux ready for the dyno. I managed to get it there Tuesday arvo but was working on it up until the time I left for the tuner and had to fix a blown coolant hose on the front turbo when I got there. Good news is the Lux made 298BHP @ 1Bar and is running sweet now. Bad news is it took so long to get it all sorted the Rolla is going to miss out on any love this year. I'm also posted to Richmond next year so I guess I won't get to meet any of you. I have bought a new fuel pump and carbie rebuild kit so we'll see if I get to install them before I go. The rear parcel shelf will work ok, I'm going to install a pair of Pioneer 6x9" 400WP 5 ways with spacers as I've got these sitting in the loft and seeing the old speakers were an odd size. I've been meaning to take a photo of where the piece is missing in the center console so someone can identify what should be there. I'll try to do this tomorrow. oh what a nissan - I'd like to take the Rolla out to the drags and see what it's like stock so I have something to compare mods to but I'm out of time. It would also be pretty embarrassing to be running in the 20s.
  11. Rolla boy, pics are working fine on my laptop. Parts I will be looking for first are, the piece of center console missing (there's a slot above the gearshift with nothing in it), the dimmer knob (it has tape around it to stop it from rattling) and a center rear view mirror (the mirror rattles in the plastic casing). I may need a parcel shelf depending on how bad the last owner hacked it up trying to install speakers. The Lux is currently getting dump pipes installed then 440cc injectors and fuel pressure regulator will be installed before its tuned on the 17th then the rolla can get some more love. Dave
  12. Thanks guys, I knew I'd found a gem. Cost break down is $500 for car, $350 for 5 tyres and a wheel alignment (I pay more then this this for 1 tyre for my Hilux), $150 for 4 tie rod ends and an idler arm (work done by me) and $40 for a full service and tune (work done by me). Rego and CTP was around $300 all up. The only things left to do are rebuild or replace shocks (they are the rebuildable originals); adjust the float level in the carbie; replace/repair boot lining, parcel shelf and a piece missing from the center console; install a cheap stereo; and a repaint. Getting my Hilux finished before Christmas is a priority at this stage so the rolla won't be getting any more attention. I live near Beaudesert and work near Ipswich so if your south or west I'm sure we could arrange a meeting. Cheers for now Dave
  13. I found this old girl a few months ago but had troubles getting onto the owner. My other car, a RN85 Hilux with a 1JZ-GTE, has been giving me a lot of dramas this year, so there was always a little thought in the back of my mind about getting a reliable daily. I found this purely by accident as it wasn't advertised. It was sitting under some carports at work collecting dust and hadn't moved for ages when I parked next to it and noticed the for sale sign in the window. It's a KE35 Corolla coupe, 3K motor with a 4 speed manual and only 122000kms. It's currently unregistered but only needs a battery and 5 new tyres. The engine sounds great and has no oil leaks. The body is straight and rust is just surface. Nothing a sand and coat of paint wouldn't fix. The interior is good, with the dash and other panels in top condition and seats with a few holes in them. I'm the 3rd owner and its the typical 1 owner was an old guy who kept full service and repair records and the 35 spent the last 3yrs of its life with him sitting in his garage. 2nd owner was the old guys neighbor and bought it as a daily until he got a better job and could afford a "better" car. So without further ado I give you the 35 On first glance it just needed a new battery and a full set of new tyres including the spare. So I got a battery and some Sava 155/75R13 tyres and sent it off for a roadworthy. She failed the roadworthy. The guy picked up all four tie rod ends, the lower ball joints, exhaust mounts, brake lines didn't have retaining clips, P/S parker and the rear cylinders. So I got the retaining clips from a wrecker and a packet of e-clips and secured the brake lines. The rear cylinders weren't leaking, so I gave them a clean. The only thing I found with the exhaust mounts was 1 missing so I replaced it. The parker light must have blown when he checked it so it's been replaced. The ball joints and tie rod ends didn't seam to have anything wrong with them but they've all been replaced. I did find the idler arm ball joint was stuffed and replaced it to. The old girl passed her roadworthy and is now registered. I gave her a service and a tune. New oil (GTX2), plugs (NGK), leads (Auto1's A1 brand), fuel filter and oil filter. Cleaned the air filter. She's been tuned for 98 octane. Idle's at 650rpm and timing is at 21 deg advance. There's a dead spot when you first put your foot down that my old man and I can't get rid of so a fuel pump and carbie refurbish is on the cards. This will probably be all the attention it gets for a long time until the Lux is running reliably and has had the suspension done. The idea is for it to take over the daily driver driver duties so the Lux can have a break and get some work done to it. In the distant future, after the Lux is finished I'll either give it a full resto or set it up for racing. I'd like to get into hillclimbs and sprints but it'll all depend on what the engine and suspension restrictions are. I'm leaning towards full resto as it's in such good condition. Cheers for now Dave
