  5. hey all, just wondering if anyone on this site has a 2tg engine in a ke20/25. and if so did you have to get it complianced for rego in Qld? thanks.
  6. thanks corolla_nut, i just bought a brand new set of flares from ebay, will post some pics when they arive.
  7. Hi Ben, not sure about the belts they were in it when she got it, pretty retro, the car cost $600 with no rego and she had to put new front rubber brake lines on it for the rwc so yeah it was a real good buy. Here's some more pics of her car...
  8. Thanks all. Tally, heres some pics of my sisters ke25 which she bought in this condition for $600.
  9. Hi Taz_rx, the engine in my ke20 is a 4K-U Jap import engine they have dished pistons and a small combustion chamber head the same as a 5k. When I pulled the engine apart my dad came home from work and he was surprised because he had only seen 4k's with flat top pistons so we did some research about it. The engine also had the double row timing chain and double valve springs and an electronic distributor. We GOOGLED 4K-U which was theblack and silver sticker on the tappet cover and found this on Wikipedia- "The 1.3 L (1290 cc) 4K was produced from 1978 through 1989. Cylinder bore was 75 mm (2.95 in) and stroke was 73 mm (2.87 in). It was a 8-valve OHV engine. In 1980, the 4K produced 60 hp (45 kW) at RPM. From 1982 through 1984, output was 65 hp (48 kW) at 5600 RPM and 72 ft·lbf (97 N·m) at 3600 RPM. The 1981 and 1982 California-spec 4K-C produced 58 hp (43 kW) at 5200 RPM and 67 ft.lbf (90 Nm) at 3600 RPM. Torque was up to 74 ft·lbf (100 N·m) at 3400 RPM for the fuel injected 1982 through 1984 4K-E. The Japan-spec 4K-U produced 74 hp (55 kW) at 5600 RPM and 78 ft·lbf (105 N·m) at 3600 RPM in 1982." and we also found this on the Oldcorollas FAQ - "There are K motors with different heads and dished pistons, called a heron combustion chamber. They are the 4K-E, 4K-U. All 5K and 7K motors are like this also. Heron type combustion chambers are known to be better in stock form, as the shallower combustion chamber provides less valve shrouding, it's said you're looking at at solid 3-5% improvement in power over a conventional design. The limitation being that the combustion chamber is half in the piston, making changing its shape drastically difficult. For maximum performance, a flattop design is desireable, as there is only so far you can "port" a piston before it becomes weak, of course you need the maximum performance head to go with it. In a street application, the heron head is better, but 4K-U and -E bottom ends aren't easy to come by, and would be more difficult to replace if you destroyed a piston or two." When I put it all back together I used my 3K distibutor, manifold and carbie with 4K jets in it to make it all look factory. It runs real well but it is only for now because when I get my licence and I am on P plates it's nice an quiet and smooth to keep me out of trouble. I already have another block with flat tops, 3K-B big port head, mild cam, carbies, and other parts put away for a sportier engine later on.
  10. Hi everyone thanks for the comments, lots of guys at school like skylines and silvias and don't appriciate the old school classics. Hey Chobis that stout is the coolest ute have you got more photo's of it?
  11. heres some pictures of my 1973 ke20 peanut corolla. original colour is bamboo. I am 16 years old and this will be my first car. I got the car in january this year, it was going to be my sisters but she found a really nice original ke25. All of the mechanicals are now done and I have started stripping it and getting it ready for painting. I will be painting it in original bamboo colour and the grill, light surrounds etc will be in silver grey. I will be doing it in acrilic laquer because it will be my first paint job and dad says it is easier to use for the first time. I helped paint my brothers 1982 lowlux project in acrilic and it looks great. When I got my ke20, the 3k was dead so I found a 4k and stripped it down and rebuilt it. The bore, pistons, crank were all good so it was honed and I fitted new rings and bearings. The head was not corroded and I got away with a valve grind and surface. I painted the block black and polished all the alloy parts just before putting it back together. So far I have learnt alot because my dad and brother who are both mechanics have explained what to do then just let me do it myself. Before i put the motor back in i repainted the engine bay and i fitted a custom battery tray with power cut out key. The interior is great but i will be getting new carpet and a new roof lining before its on the road. I have collected lots of good bits to go back on it and will try to keep it looking as neat as posible. I would love to get flares later on because i thing they look great, but i don't know where to get them. heres some photos so far.
  12. Thanks alot for that redwarf, I'm just getting into ke corollas. i have a ke20 peanut and my sister has just registered her ke25 mango. i have just fitted a 4k. with some help from my dad and brother. its going to be my first car, as I'm only 16. heres some pics:
  13. Hi I am new to this site, and am doing a ke20 project at the moment, when you do the 30/55 conversion do you change the rear brakes and the master cylinder as well? Also if I want to use a booster what booster do people use on the ke20 and ke25's. Thanks Jacob
