  1. Sweet. If I do the coilover conversion and drop 40mm or so will I have much issue with the standard travel on the inserts?
  2. Great info guys thankyou. I just picked up xt130 struts hubs brakes and lcas, getting delivered. My issue now is what springs should I run? What sizes from other cars can I get for a stiff rate?
  3. Front needs more low and stiff, I'm going to put it to the floor... Should I: A. Get chopped stiffer springs and tie them in (illegal) B. Weld on a sleeve coilover kit (no good choice of insert) C. Wait for some hachi struts to come up on Gumtree (expensive if it ever happens) Any other ideas appreciated! :-) Also sorry about the pun at the start.
  4. I suspect because of the choke though, because it appears to idle and run better when I choke it with my hand. MultiQuote
  5. Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll let yous know how I go tomorrow :)
  6. it does, it was very high, but i've adjusted it now it sits just above half way. I will try that, should I buy new gaskets and that? A rebuild kit is 70 bucks plus I gotta wait for it, would rather fix the problem tomorrow if possible of course.
  7. G'day Starski here! I know this isn't corolla specific, but I always get the best help from this forum. Bought my new 1981 Hilux over the summer, and has been running great, please check out the picture attached. Anyhow... now it doesn't idle properly after running for a while, it's fine at start up but then won't accelerate properly and conks out at idle when I'm stopped at the lights. I've tried adjusting the float level, timing, idle and idle mixture, and blocking off vacuum hoses for all the emissions rubbish, but all to no avail! My dad reckons a vaccuum leak somewhere but I can't find it... Just yesterday it start running even worse, now when I apply partial throttle it craps out, I have to rev it heaps just to get it going, but it stalls itself constantly, and it back fires when it's running constantly. Any help or suggestions appreciated, it's a Nikki carb if thats of any help Thanks Starski
  8. thats great thankyou, i can only find one nozzle coming out at the bottom of the right of the carb, is that where I put the charcoal? and no idea where the dizzy vac tube goes aswell.. in the diagram theres four... you wouldnt happen to have photos of your setup would you? thanks heaps for responding ill have another look tomorrow, going to pick up a torque wrench am super excited! will put up photos of the head in progress, never seen a head so clean! have to enjoy it before the new oil goes in., might paint the rocker cover if i get time.
  9. hello, Just got my cylinder head reconditioned, and am waiting for a torque wrench before i can put it all back 2gether properly. just one quick question, all of the emissions control vacuum hoses are a mess and I'm pretty sure where wrong to begin with, I've consulted my gregorys repair manual and it gives no clear instruction on what goes where. I'm willing to leave it all off for simplicities stake, but am wondering if anyone has a photos of a correct setup, or at least where the vacuum advance from the distributor goes. I would like if possible to put it all back to stock specification. Any help regarding the vacuum hose/carby/emissions control apreciated.:)
  10. thanks so much for all your help guys, gonna get into it weekend after this one, just one last question... will I require any tools to get the head off that couldnt be found in an ordinary tool kit?
  11. sweet thanks heaps, what is skimming? does skimming require special tools?
  12. hey man hows the rolla. Mines f@$ked atm but still keen for some galston gorge action when its fixed.

  13. G'day fellow rollaclubbers, Recently lent my OVERHEATING (i know I'm sorry never again will i put it off for so long) ke55 4k-c to a friend who needed to get to wollongong, and got a call that it had stopped working on the highway! The report is that water is coming out exhaust when trying to start. Could this mean a cracked head/block? or can that just be the gasket? Going to attempt to check the head asap, anyone have pointers on removing? has this particular thing happened to anyone before? will get the cooling system/thermostat checked proffesionally once I can start it. If its nothing too serious... any help appreciated! Please enjoy photos of the car in my gallery, I bought this car for $280 and its served me so well for 1 and a half years til now. I hope this isnt the end for jolene...
