  1. who cares about the 3k big port shit man how bad is the cut and shut been done? will it have to be replaced i will ty to get down on sunday man and have a geez i am gonna get my welder home soon so if u wanna save some coin i will plate it up for you man

People chase those 3kb heads. mon-aye!!! The cut and shit isn't too bad. Possibly saved me some time and money. Also got some new door beazels and window winders off ebay.

  2. I didn't go to work today. My back is killing me from lifting doors and timber. Plus some indiviuals are being right c*#ts to me so they get f*#ked and tomorrows my birthday, not that i'll be able to touch the car till Sunday.... :D

Stripped the interior. Apart from the dash, drivers seat and steering column.

    Removed:

-the OMG handle from the rear window, cabin vent, roof lining, parcel shelf(which was a piece of cardboard over the horribly corroded original.

-quarter windows, door windows, all seals, door trims, internal door handles and locks

-rear bumber, tail lights, tail light finishers, boot, lining, spare and boot wall.

-front bumper, grill & finisher, headlights and finishers and fender indicators.

    -wipers, mirrors and trims

    -plus shitloads more.

    :fuzz: :)

Still need to do windscreens, front and rear. front indicators under the pumper, engine, gearbox, wiring lume, and everything under the hood.

Tagged and bagged everything. when i'm done it'll be a rolling shell.

Found some ugly things today though. :argh: Most of the lower sill up to the rear wheel arch has been cut and shut. Both sides. Same with behind the rear wheel arch to the boot. Shudder to think what they've done with the weather channels. Also the rear valence panel is rusted to the date hole and it appears its been arse ended because the join between rear quarter and valence is cracked.

Few positives though. The whole thing is original down to the rear speakers and wiring. Still in pretty good nick. I bet they still work. >SALE< pa ching!

Forgot my digital camera so i'll get some photos on the weekend. Thanks, Kez for all your help and get a job you slacker. :poke:

PS. How do I tell if the 3k has a big port head?

  3. dude the ke20 is low hahaha, if i can get mine that low i would be happy =]

I am running a 5k with twin webbers and honestly, its a great engine, not a power house but it is still a great little engine =]

thanks for the input jaygore. its the sort of thing i need. you can get your ke that low if you turn your leaf springs upside down. looks wicked, though it won't be staying there.

Also got my personalised plates yesterday. WOO HOO! they say GJM85. Ordered new front fender indicators and front light trims from ebay, hopefully getting the dashpad through Raven.

Going to start getting the little things i know ill need, then once the body is done i'll buy parts as i need them. I might have a big budget but its a budget I want to stick to.

  4. hey gave mate i would keep the idea of the ke70 struts for the front of the car as it will already be disc and will have a wider range of wheels to use eg pcd of ke70 is 114.3 and i think the ke20s are like 4x110 i could be wrong

Hey i'm feeling lost and confused now. Just read the K motor knowledge thread. As much as it blows the k motors up, it beats them down just as hard.

Not sure what i'm doing now. Might just get the thing apart, assess the damage, then work out what i'm doing. There seems to be a lot of work involved in doing the conversion to the 4a and information is shit up the wall like a cornered cat.

  5. Too all those interested,

After having a deep and meaningful conversation with a very wise man, myself, i've decided change the plan and outcome overall.

I say no to 4age and yes to hot 5k.

The pros are- far less work, far more originality. Far less cost for, far more value.

The cons are- far less early to midteen runs, far more mid to late teen runs.... that's all I can really think of.

So people, I am now chasing a 5k and a 5 speed gearbox to suit and a bigger diff center. Also upgrades in suspension and brakes. If you have anything or know of anything that can hit me up. I'll appreciate it. I'll update the original post accordingly.

Finally i'm interested in keeping the standard ke20 stud pattern but upgrading the rear drums and front from drum to discs. What can I do?

  6. I'd like to log the progress of my KE20 as it makes its way from a rough old original to a neat streeter.

Purchased the vehicle on the 1/8/2010 for $1500. I saw it driving home from the wreckers after buying new seats for my daily. I've been told i'm the third owner. Originally owned by some old biddy, then a younger dude, whom I bought it off. Thanks Tyson and thanks to my brother for not buying it out from under me.

The car itself is a 1972 KE20 SE coupe. All original apart from paintand 4k upgrade, but still has 3k components. It drives well apart from the reversed rear leaf springs.... it's low.

It's riding on Firestones with 70% tread. The spare is near new.

Now what do I want to do with it? Spend money.

I'd like a quick little streeter that turns heads but not police cars. So here's the plan.

    • bodily restoration
    • hot 5k
    • twin sidedrafts
    • K50 trans
    • KE55 diff[no lock]
    • KE55 rear drum upgrade
    • KE70 rotors and calipers
    • good rear shocks & lowered leafs
    • upgrade front suspension
    • alloy wheels
    • rejuvinated interior and dash.
    • mild stereo

Here's the pics. Any help or gear that people are prepared to contribute for reimbursment would be much appreciated, afterall i'm new to this.

  8. f@$k sunshine, it's the weekend.....some people on here do things on the weekend aside from lurking here. you're lucky i've got a busted thumb and can't drive anywhere/do anything!

i'll keep this short and sharp.

if yuo hva ethe finances, you'll (most likely) be better off going a 4AGE. EFI, much more aftermarket goodies, and "easier" to get parts for.

how much work does the body need? if it's got rust anywhere other than the bonnet and front guards, just pull it from the road and do a complete overhaul.

else, grab a 5 spd and put in a 4k (and a mild cam) which will give it enough poke to be a happy lil weekender.

I like the age idea. thanks for the input.

I just picked the car up this morning. Got it real cheap. I'm going to start a build thread now. I think I know where i'll be going with this car.

  9. Drove past a KE20 in the front yard of some guys house. [FORSALE] It's mine. Haven't had the time to get to know it yet. Picking it up tomorrow.

    White, low, original wheels with Firestones, 3k 4 speed. O R I G I N A L.

Where do I go from here? The left road leads to restoration. The right road leads to an overhaul. The finances are there.

How much work goes into an AGE motor conversion? Or do I take the K motor road.

I want a quick little weekender. Unnoticeable but noticeable and I don't want to hear all the old "do your research newb," rubbish. I just need some ideas and a little know how.

Where, oh where do I go from here?

  10. Why is it starting to become like boostcrusing here you say one thing and people flame you.

Because everyone's a forking genius and completely superior to you..... and although we all claim to be experts we're not willing to help you.

Well we are willing to help. But at a price..... ;)

  11. Brings back memories of my AE71 Spirit. Only every saw one other. In the North Point shopping center, Merlbourne.

A rare piece it was. White, decals, rear spoiler, 4AC, 5 speed. The memories have me sweating like a pedo at a Wiggles concert....ode to the spirit......
