  1. Totally not worth it in the end.... though unfortunately once you get into the nasty cycle of unlicensed driving its hard to get out. You've probably heard it a thousand times but you should just do the time for the crime and start a fresh. You'll end up losing your car, your license permanently and possibly jail time if you push it far enough.

Did you lose your license through unacceptable driving or did you never have one to beginning?

  2. you see when a timing belt breaks the valves stop moving but the pistons don't. Any valves left in the open position tend to get a nice little kiss from a piston. I'd say Evan is right. Bent valves. Although if your lucky you could just be 180 degrees out with your timing.

  3. also of note, is that the exhaust smells more like a mower, than a 2.6 Magna...

if your car smells like a mower then its burning oil.

excess fuel will blow back through the carbie. check the air cleaner to see if its burnt or smells like fuel. if it sometimespops on start up and you get smoke coming out of the air intake its retarded timing. i have had to set timing on my 4afc to 20 degrees because i think the dizzy is a tooth out.

blue smoke is always oil. steam is water and black smoke is fuel though it normally ignites in the exuast manifold causing backfiring and often blowing out flange rings or manifold gaskets.

i'd dare say valve stem seals.

  4. Kinda regret sending the old donk to the brink of desruction now...

....tends to give a puff blue smoke between high changes now. If I peak it in first the change to second makes like hiroshima '45... smokey!

Thinking either rings or valve seals. Hoping its not a head gasket.

  5. hahah good on you mate.

I reserve my right as a moderator to FLAME!

68 rear wheel killerwasps in my 710kg car

    against

78 flywheel killerwasps (claimed by factory) in your 1000kg car.....

    Good one.

    That's 71 kwhp,

and how much did you spend to get that 68rwkw philby?

    A half decent 4k in a ke1x will own a 6 cyl falcadore.

I beg to differ. My brother owns a EL XR6 Falcon 5 speed. It makes poop of even serious NA 4 bangers.

  6. You can spend all that money on a 4k and my 4afc ae92 seca will still smoke you....

but then a stock ae101 will smoke me...

and a stock ae93 will smoke that...

    ...and the story goes on.

Your best bet! Get a $13K xr6 and slide it into a ditch. That seems to be all the rage...

    ...ain't I the optimist!!!

  7. I seem to remember Twincams had nuts welded in behind the firewall for the brace to bolt onto, but I might be wrong.

Yeah apparently the CS model wasn't preped for the strutbrace...

The main concern i have with carbed engine is the available space for a set of webers.... Should set up a down draft rig and used a big wrx scoop.

  8. The head-gasket problem should only be a problem up until the first change, it was a production defect that can be fixed once and for all by the correct gasket and torquing procedure.

Sounds like your old man has warped the head.

That would not surpise me in the slightest. Though the cylinder walls in those things is surpisingly thin.
