  1. thanks mate. It's mongoose sound deadening. I think it was $120 a box and you get 9 sheets in a box. It's just a pain to install, especially inside the doors. But it works well with road noise. Yeah the turbo is going to sit pretty close to the bonnet so I'm going to need to do something to protect it.
  2. A change of direction has happened, I wasn't happy with the power that the 5k was putting out and I stumbled across a 4k turbo fuel injected set up on eBay that sleepercorty was selling. So I drove up to QLD to grab that, took the 5k out and put the 4k in. I have since replaced all the fuel lines in copper as I'm a plumber and that was the easiest way to go as they were ʞ©$ɟed anyway, installed a surge tank with the two pumps and a heavy duty fuel filter which cost a overrated as its going to be running e85 and not all pumps and filters can handle that fuel. (not all together in photo because I took the tank out to weld new barbs in it for the surge tank) I grabbed a B&M shifter for the trimatic tranny which should make slamming through gears fun. I have a mate who works for a company who build race cars and he is making a new custom intake manifold and exhaust manifold to make the the flow a little better and to make some more power. The motor had a blown head so I got it slightly skimmed, new copper cometic gasket and ARP head studs as the originals were STRETCHED. I have also fitted a turbosmart plumb back BOV and a turbosmart dual stage boost controller. One of the things I'm not 100% sure on is what oil to be running through the motor and turbo, anyone have any suggestions? It's obviously more effort then a lot of people would go to with a 4k but its going to be interesting to see what sort of power it makes, sleepercorty said he made 160rwhp on 20psi so I'm hoping to make more then that. Please leave your feedback as I'm interested to see what you guys think

  4. Hey guys I'm leigh,I'm attempting to re-build a 4k turbo injected motor. The motor had standard head bolts in it but they stretched under boost and blew the head gasket. I have been searching for a metal head gasket as the standard seems to blow at 10psi. Does anybody know where I find a metal head gasket? Also has anybody had any luck getting ARP head bolts/studs? They don't stock a kit but ive heard of people using arp bolts in 4ks. Any help would be great. Cheers Leigh
  5. hey all. A lot has happened to the rolla since the last post. I've had the twin carbies taken off and rebuilt, has made a huge difference to the amount of fuel its using. It still leaves black marks everywhere i park it though. The rear brakes were pissing out into the drums so i had them redone, which added more pressure into the brake line every time I hit the brakes (as it wasnt leaking out anymore) which in turn blew the master cylinder. Which then ate most of the paint behind the brake booster. The car is up for a respray, the first paint job was ok but who ever did it didn't get all the rust. I got a 2 1/4" exhaust system in. Was pretty loud so I ended putting a longer hotdog in to take off some of the edge. To kill some of the road noise i stripped the interior and boot and put sound deadening in everywhere I could fit it. it has made a massive difference. The car is pretty reliable now, only problem is the amount of fuel and oil it uses at 110kms. it revs at about 3500rpm in fifth and you can definitely smell the oil. Not entirely sure what I'm going to do about that but ill sort something. Future plans are to get the suspension stiffened and possibly lowered. the front springs were cut so they are pretty much useless and the back is stock from back in the day so it'll be getting an extra leaf. Would like to get a nice set of 5 spoke chrome rims for it. maybe 15"-16". Also considering getting a gilmer drive for it. Its pretty much just the cost thats the issue. Thats about it for now. ill add some pictures too. If you have any advice or comments please let me know.

  7. Ill probably keep those rims on it for now until i find something better. Those 20s won't be going on it.
  8. A few things have happened since the last update. I have the pulled the 5k back out to tidy up the engine bay. While the engine was out i cleaned it all up and painted it mat black. I painted the x-member, brake lines, fuel lines and steering rack gloss black. The engine bay is going to be all orange with black 5k with random chrome/stainless and red bits. The gauges have been fitted into the dash along with the push start and the entire dash has been painted mat black.

  10. Original door trim from donor car. Engine finally going in. it was hard doing it on a dirt road. Engine in. Donor car. Painted brakes. before and after.
  11. hey all I first bought my ke55 off ebay, it had: -a new blood orange paint job -2" lowering blocks -no engine -no locks -no side windows -half a loom The plan was to have a nice ke55 daily driver that was nice to look at and reliable. I decided to keep the stock interior just tidy it up a little with reapolstering the seats in black, new black carpet, new black headliner. I have bought 6 new auto meter guages which i am making a new gauge cluster out of. The gauges include: -Speedo -Tahco -Water Temp -Fuel Level -Oil press -Volts I am also taking out the ignition and replacing it with a switch for accessories, a switch for reds and a push start button. I am putting in an alpine flip out screen above the shifter, two alpine SR speekers under the dash and two under the pastel shelf, a kenwood amp under each of the front seats and two kenwood subs fibreglassed into the boot. Also fitting an alarm and power windows. I have hidden all the wiring in the engine bay to make it look alot cleaner and attaching it to a drycell battery. I decided to keep the 5k engine with a 5 speed with twin carbies and extractors with a 2.5" exhaust with dump pipe. i pulled off the brakes to paint them cherry red.

  13. Another update on the corolla. Since last update i have bought an engine!!! (thanks rob) Its a twin carby 5K, it was on rollaclub so I'm sure most of you have seen it. I have also found myself a steering wheel and a dash pad. I have started to cut out my door trims and back shelf, they are a light cream colour. Please give me your feed back and comments.
  14. May be a silly question, but is there any benefit or harm when you double clutch? I was watching the fast and the furious and when he looses the race they laugh at him for not double clutching, whats the point? cheers leigh?
  15. So i have tried to research this as much as possible but people on here seem to know what their talking about. I have two options of engines, a 4age 20v with W series box and bell housing or a CA18DE RWD engine. I know abit about both engines but what i don't know is how easily they bolt in and which engine is worth the effort in the long run. i have a 1980 KE55, i don't want it to be a drag car or anything just to have some fun in and have some power when needed. which engine would you guys take the time and effort with? Is the W series bell housing too wide for the trans tunnel? What X members mods would need to be done? Sorry for all the questions Any help would be awesome! Cheers Leigh
  16. So just thought id update everyone, the rolla now has glass (complete with RC sticker!) and locks :P All i need now is some weatherstrips for the doors and she will be water tight. Still looking for an engine though, if anyone has any suggestions of what i should put in it (with minimal modification to car) please let me know?

This is my Blood Orange Ke55 So far she has: -Been painted orange -2" lowering blocks -battery relocated to boot -17" 5 spoke rims -No engine -No glass -No locks The plan is to: -Get maybe CA18DE engine (havent decided yet) -Get custom dash made. planning on just flat face dash with speco gauges along it. clean and tidy. -Getting custom tan interior made with orange trim. -Street suspension -Big brake upgrade So far I've just started to clean out the rolla and strip everything i don't want out.   20. So i was talking to a guy I'm buying the engine off and he says: "the gearbox behind the AE71 is a T50. He has that gearbox but with the wrong bellhousing. He only has it to suit a 2TG" I don't know heaps about which transmition and bellhousing will fit into the KE55 so could someone please help me out?
  21. is it possible to fit a 4agze and a AE71 gearbox together?
  22. i can get the T50 gearbox but its got a 2TG bellhousing. would that need many mods? would the 4age go hard?
  23. I am unsure which engine to put into my KE55 either a 4AGE 16 valve or RX7 series 5 halfcut. The 4age seems reliable but id have to cut the gearbox tunnel to fit the W55 gearbox and I'm not sure how much power i would get. the rotary would give alot of power but doesnt seem so reliable, but I'm not sure what mods would need to be done. If anyone has done any of these conversions and knows how much power these give and the mods needed could you please let me know? Cheers Leigh
  24. Ive got a 5k in my ke55 that is determand not to work. looking to upgrade engine to something more powerful and reliable but will slip into engine bay with min trouble. what engine would suit this? cheers
