  1. Hey mate, there was no "delux" badge on the boot, there was a patch of bad paint where it should have been though. Surely it would have seen a bit of paint by now, otherwise it would still be undercoat on the roof and bonnet. Did it have the same wheels or you can't remember? If you see it again if you could snap a photo it would be fantastic. I think I'd be able to spot whether or not it was mine with a good pic or two! Thanks!!
  2. WA? Interesting if it made it all the way over there. Any ideas who ownes it?
  3. If I remember correctly it went down to NSW or VIC. So maybe somewhere down there. It WAS a really tidy car when I got it...first car, I was the 3rd owner.....then I did bad things to it....it WAS super duper tidy, it was kinda rough when I sold it..... :(
  4. Hi Guys, Just thought I'd throw this out there and see if anyone has (or knows of) my old 1974 KE25. I sold it back in 2004 (or so). When I sold it it was dark blue and had a 4k with a 4 speed. The bonnet and roof were both only painted in undercoat at the time. It also had an aftermarket alarm with central locking as well as 2 holes in the firewall where there was aftermarket AC running. The original 4x100 hubs had been removed and changed to 4x114 hubs and it had 5 spoke globe mags with 205 yokahamas on it. It also had an Alpine 3 disc in-dash cd changer in it at the time I sold it. I'm just curious to know if anyone knows where it is now and I'd love to know if it's been all fixed up and glowing away in all it's glory or rusting away at a wreckers somewhere (to break my heart). Here are the last pics I had of it before I sold it. By wan7000 at 2010-12-22 By wan7000 at 2010-12-22 Thanks, Matthew!!!
  5. Is the "new" coil "NEW" or is it just another coil? Sometimes it is better to just cut that option out and replace it with a brand new one of the correct type. If replacing the coil before made things better then perhaps all your problems could be coil related. Could also be the ignitor OR something as simple as a bad lead?
  6. HI Guys, Just looking to see if I can pick peoples minds here. I'm looking (just looking at this stage) at putting a Suzuki M13 (1.3L Twin cam VVT EFI) in to my KE18. Only issue I can see (other than ALL the usual engine conversion stuff) is cable to hydraulic cluth conversion. Has anyone done the conversion and if so how did you go about it and what parts did you use. Before people start asking, the reason I'm interested in the M13 is because the M13 is a SMALL RWD engine that is still used in current model Jimnys, mated to a SMALL 5 speed gear box. They produce about 70KW (Which is perfectly enough) and are easy to get parts for (seeing as they are still in production) and are happy reliable engines. I don't want to go down the typical 4AGE path, they are getting old now and it is hard to find one that hasn't been flogged half to death or isn't thousands of dollars, I like the idea of something little different. Thanks Matt
  7. For the money involved I would suggest you replace everything in the ignition system just to be sure. At the least it won't hurt. Get new Points, condensor, rotor button, dist cap, and plugs for a start. Don't forget the condensor, lots of people over look them because they seem like they don't do much, but your points will get eaten away with out one and if the one you have isn't doing it's job correctly the same fate will await your new points. If doing this proves no improvement replace leads. Still no improvement, start on the carb. You may be able to get away with simply cleaning and adjusting the points. It is something that needs to be checked and adjusted at least every 5000k for happy performance. However, for the maybe $100 (TOPS) all the brand new ignition parts will cost you, I suggest you just do it right the first time or else you end up chasing your tail. Matt
  8. I have almost the same problem with my 4K-C powered KE18. The engine is out of a 84 KE70 and by the pic it looks like we have the same carb. I am 100% sure that all my ignition gear and settings are spot on. What I have narrowed it down to is the vacuum secondaries. I would assume that you have the same set up. I have a diaphram that open the secondaries and when you suck on this tube it leaks somewhat, meaning it takes more vacuum than normal to open them up, also means that essentially there is a vacuum leak in the system. I tried (just for the hell of it) holding it open with a zip tie and took it for a burn around the block and it took off like a rocket every time with no bog down, but the pay off was the car more or less wouldn't idle. I concluded that I'm gonna have to go see my local Toyota parts man and try to get a new one of these diaphrams, but I'm in no hurry, the car runs just fine excepting this small detail and it'll probably cost me more for this part than the whole engine cost me!! You MAY have the same issue, worth having a look at it anyway. By the way, those blocked off vacuum lines look like emissions gear, nothing really to worry about being gone, it does however look like there is no vacuum control valve on the dash pot, if you want it to work properly you'll need a control valve. You want it set up so that when there is little vacuum it is allowed to extend and then when there is lots of vacuum (under braking) it is only allowed to retact slowly. This will result in having a slightly higher idle for 2 secs or so before it drops back down to the regular idle speed.
  9. Oh Yes, and as for polishing youself, you want to have a good pollishing wheel and some good polishing compound and a bit of patience or else you'll end up with really really really sore blistered fingers, aching muscles and a not very well polished Engine Hat. For the trouble it is worth if you don't have the right gear it is better buying an already polished one. Failing that, there are businesses about that polish stuff. That is all they do, just polish anything you give them. It may well work out less money to have someone polish the one you have rather than buying an already polished one. Polishing has it's ups and downs. On one hand polished stuff in your engine bay looks COOL, on the other, you have to KEEP polishing it to keep it looking cool, just the same as you need to polish your paint every now and then. Make sure you use good quality metal polish. I have gotten onto a great product (that I'm sure lots of polish freaks like me know about) called Meguires NXT All metal Polish. It is kinda expensive but it does a NICE job. It comes in a green tub and you can get it at most any auto store. They also have regular "All Metal Polish" that comes in a black tub, I have not tried this, but it is like less than half the price, AND it smells like coconuts!! It would be like polishing metal on a tropical island!
  10. HA!!! Man, this is the funniest stuff I have read in a while! Engine Hat! That is classic!! I love it. I used to always call it "Rocket" cover just to be fun, but now I think I'll call it the engine hat! LOVE IT!! When it comes to old engines and rubber gaskets it is my opinion that you should ALWAYS replace the "Engine Hat" gasket as it saves you a big horrible mess if it doesn't seal up right again when you put it all back together. Rubber gaskets go very hard over time and then crack and split when you go to put it back together. So, unless you replaced the gasket like a month ago and know it is good, spend the $10 and get a new gasket. I'm sure there would be a factory torque setting for the Engine Hat, but I have always just done them up kinda tight, but not too tight as you could damage your new gasket. Engine hat.....man I love it!!!! I guess if a hat did for humans what an engine hat does for an engine, taking a hat off your head would result in blood SPRAYING all over the room, running all over your face and body and give the potenital for things to get stuck in the inner workings of your brain........now wouldn't that be interesting.
  11. Hey Gav! How's the brakes? Did you end up fitting them to your wife's KE17 as you were planning? Did you use that mastercylinder as well and how did the brakes end up feeling? I'm pretty well convinced the squishy peddle problem was that that master Cylinder was intended for use with drum brakes all round and when you use it with discs it is too much for it to handle. Are you missing the KE18 yet? I have popped up some photos of the new roof if you are interested....link here : http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=36531 Hope that works! Anyway, let me know how the brakes worked out! Matt.
  12. Hi Guys! Thanks for the responce and enthusiasm, in answer to some of the questions, no, I'm pretty sure it isn't the original Toyota Red. However it was originally red, the interior and engine bay have not been repainted in the newer red, but the colour of the original red is not that far off this red, I would say the original is a bit more pinky.....maybe....it is hard to say. In answer to Philbey, it no longer has the 7K (sigh), Gav had pulled that out and replaced it with a worked 3K-B before I got it. A real pitty really as I would have been much more keen on it with the 7K, but I was not looking for a wagon when it had it for sale the first time, but these things happen. Never the less, I was not happy with the 3K-B, (worked little engines don't really do it for me, I would rather a stock engine), so I have pulled the 3K and popped in a healthy 4K-C from a 1984 KE70 wagon. I know alot of people would think it foolish to rip out a hot 3K-B in lieu of a stock standard 4K, but the 4K idles smooth, and starts perfect everytime, uses less fuel and is generally nicer to drive than the 3K, so I'm happy, even if it isn't really the most "appropriate" engine for the car. To me the 4K (with the headers I had on the car with the 3K) seems to make about as much power as the 3K, but with WAY more torque, so I see it as winner winner winner for me. Thanks again for the comments guys, I appreciate it, I think I'm still a little unsure if the flag-roof thing was a good idea, and it is good to hear positive comments. I will try to get some photos of the interior and the engine and other bits up soon, but probably not before the weekend. Thanks!! Matthew
  13. Hi Guys, thought I'd finally get around to posting some pics of my KE18. Yes, this wagon used to belong to Gavclassic, I bought it off him about a year or so ago and the car now lives with me in Toowoomba. There was some rust in the roof that I needed to fix, so I thought that if I was going to have to repaint the roof I might as well add a little spice while I was at it. I thought that I'd pop up the few pics I had to get peoples opinions. I will take some sexy pics of the whole car very soon and pop them up for all to ogle over. I'll get around to the pics and I'll put some info on the car up in the next few days as well, just don't have alot of time right now....... Please, I'm interested in what people think.......leave comments.......
