taterphakes Posted December 9, 2006 Report Share Posted December 9, 2006 Hi, I have a 88 4wd wagon, sometimes when i change to reverse it wont go in properly, just like it stays in neutral. when i change back up to 1st then reverse again it works. Des Posted December 9, 2006 Report Share Posted December 9, 2006 Alot of gearboxes don't like going into reverse unless you've been to 1st first its a normal thing so not to worry. 7shades Posted December 9, 2006 Report Share Posted December 9, 2006 The shifting problem is common in the the 4wd.... the cable linkages need adjusting/replacing. (I've had to do this before) As for the thunk... its got me buggered but I'd probably assume an engine or gearbox mount, or at worst the the rwd drive chain in the trasfer case may be jumping a link... $$$ if thats the case....
