unfortunately,

 

the 4agze i got from the wreckers had rust build up inside the block.

 

i'm thinking of resleeving or getting another block.

 

any inputs/experience in pro's and cons?

 

also, can i get a block from the other 4age variants? i know i CAN'T get the 3-rib block. but how about the 7-rib 16V N/A block? the the silvertop? blacktop?

i thought the 7-rib blocks are all the same, and that the gze just had different pistons and rings.

I am not quite sure when you rust inside your block but maybe all you need is a light hone. If its more serious bore it out 0.5mm. Get some pics

The rust has probably just caught one of the rings and broken it and caused a loss in compression....

 

Nothing a light hone or over bore wont fix. Doing it the light hone way you may get away with the same pistons and just need new rings etc but if you choose the over bore option new pistons can be had from toyota brand new.

 

Most people including myself have only gone to 1mm (40thou) over bore as there is no need to go any more and I'm pretty the walls become too thin after 1mm.

 

If you feel the need to get a new block anything from the 100kw small port will fit including the bigport GZE. The ST and BT 20V's have the same block and crank aswell.

as suggested, i had the machine shop check if honing the cylinders will do the trick.

 

the pistons and all other intenals are in tact.

 

worst case, i'll get another block.
