Well, it was a fun day... But none of you were there except for Peter and Doug, so HAHA, you all missed out

Was run a little different to usual in the sense that we only ran 4 tests, but we ran each of them twice so we got a chance to experiment and stuff. Proved to be rather useful, I even had the chance to do the last test 5 times (Diamond Slalom) :) Took out a flag twice, completely obliterated it both times - the same flag too! Turns out I can do the diamonds, but I can't do the slalom ;) Spun once.

Hal is an interesting car. After a lot of stuffing around (my wheel nuts wouldn't fit my motorkhana rims) got the skid tyres on and went for a lap around the block and boy-oh-boy... 3rd gear slides without even trying (or wanting to really). Driving to Willowbank also proved interesting...

Anyway, turns out my handbrake still doesn't work and wouldn't even lock up my super-skid tyres, so after doing the first 2 tests (4 runs) I gave up even trying to use it. Was really annoyed, this stupid handbrake is really shitting me. Anyway, after I gave up trying to use it my day became a lot better, and thankfully the next 2 tests (Manuevering and Diamond Slalom) didn't really require the handbrake.

Now let me say something. Diamond Slalom is a lot of fun. In fact, it's even more fun when you do it in 2nd gear. Because in 2nd gear, you go REALLY fast, and the car cuts sideways faster than you can imagine. And you burn A LOT of rubber. One of my runs I managed to pretty much hold the slide from the 2nd flag till the 2nd last flag (that's 2 rounds around the course, including a slalom in the middle :)) It's really really fun =) You also wipe out flags in a very large way...

Anyway, car is now home. Brakes have been taken apart, cleaned up (shoes a bit glazed, maybe that's partially why they're so shit), readjusted and put back together. Haven't had a chance to test it yet though. Exhaust is broken again (so that's what that stupid rattling sound was...) Sucks. Gearbox is leaking oil rather badly, should look at that sometime. For now I'll just fill it back up. Diff is sounding rather average, making some strange "clunk-clunk" sounds when going from forward to reverse, and some other times... The backlash is quite bad. I'm glad I'm upgrading the diff sometime...

Today was fun. I managed to come in 3rd in class and 15th outright, even with the major stuff-up's in the first 2 tests...

You should have been there  Unfortunately it looks like Peter has managed to break the KE20, hopefully it's not too serious :fuzz:

Oh yeah - CONGRATULATIONS to Rob and Mel for a super Class Win again (in Rockhampton)

Have looked at finances and time, looks like the only thing that *may* be fixed for Queensland Challenge will be the exhaust. Going to get the car back on stands tomorrow and check the gearbox oil level, maybe cover the speedo cable drive with silicone and hope it somehow seals. Or if I get motivated maybe drain the box again and swap speedo drives with one of the other broken boxes.

Diff? Haha.

was rather ironic that peter was saying to me earlier in the day, that he expected to see some holes in my bonnet from all the valve bounce. then his son ryan goes and does in a bigend in their 5k.

i bought their spare 5k last weekend. you'll have to go 4ag now pete. i'm interested in the twin SU's :)

funny this morning waiting at a set of lights and a copper pulls up beside me. my thing burbling away at idle, and i've still got my numbers on the windows from the motorkhana yesterday. i must say i felt a bit paranoid, it was a long 60 seconds.

they didn't even look at me. haha.

Hehe... I think I still have my number too :) Car went home yesterday and was on stands even before the spare wheels and tool box came out of the car

Thanks Doug, for pointing out that it was No. 1 Son that 'BROKE' the car.

Should I be looking for dents in the sump?

See Fook, 'I' don't break things. (well, I always seem to find someone else to blame)

I can only concur with what Fook said about a fun day and add that it was a ball having 2 runs at each course.( and watching Fook 'DRIFT' around diamond slalom)

My thanks go out to Wheeley for his input about my car and driving skills ( or lack there of) I think a lot of other people could learn a hell from just talking to the man.

Get off your arses ( and away from your PC's ) and get out and 'NIKE' ( just do it )

I was terribly dissapointed to see the corolla's were outnumbered by mini's and mazda's.

For all of you who don't know, pencil in the 8th of August on your calendars, QMS on the Gold Coast.

Oops, looks like I counted wrong, I came in 17th outright, 3rd in class.

Peter came in 21st outright, 5th in class, and that's with a DNS for the last test because the Rolla died. Doug 27th outright, 7th in class, with 2 WD's.

fook, humor me and book your car into ballina brake and exhaust one saturday morning. you can stay at my house friday night or whenever you want, hang out with us down here and make a little weekend out of it, and get your handbrake fixed at the same time. if ross can't fix it, nobody can!!! it will be so worth your time

doug, just so you know, i've heard of people getting defected for wearing race numbers on their windows. but it does look cool, and gives you MASSIVE street cred on cavill avenue too, even the chicks point and shout "omg they went racing today COOL!" :)

bah, i know i can do alot better. felt so bad on sunday, which doesn't help. was kinda funny on one of the tests, i did a good run only to park it in the starting bay DOH!

jamie, i'm not really trying to score on street cred, just forgot to wash the numbers off before i dropped the kids off to school.

fooks car looked so sweet out there. it is good to see him in something with power to match the handling.

Doug: Haha, yes I saw that one when you finished in the start garage, that was kinda funny :)

And yes, for some reason I think almost everyone didn't really seem to be driving to their best, even Craig Hornibrook (who won surprise surprise) didn't look anywhere near as spectacular as he usually does. I suppose it was a club event so most people were just mucking around. I think Craig's goal for the day was to go through all of those tyres he brought, he sure left a lot of black stuff on the ground

At least you looked like you were having lots of fun :) Especially after fixing that handbrake ;) Pity you didn't stay long after the last test, did you see my last few runs (untimed) on Diamond Slalom? Gawd apart from the khanacross a few weeks back that must be the most fun I've had in a car in awhile =)
