Just spotted really nice ke30, it was Maroon in colour, not a scratch, and it had a vinyl roof!

 

Got me thinking, is the vinyl roof a rare factory option? ie does anyone have one?

And did it come out on any other model?

 

I've only ever seen one once before, on a biege corolla.

ive seen a couple on cars in adelaide but only real s#@tboxes ... from this i would suspect they would either have been a factory extra or really "in" at the time they were built and the owners had more money then brains ... personally i don't like the look of vinal roofs on old rollas as it makes them look like they belong to old people.

I'd say they were either Factory options or Dealer options, as vinyl roofs were all the rage in the 70s/80s

whats the purpose? are they lighter or is just cosmetic?

Cosmetic, and a slight weight gain as it goes over the metal, a c**t to get off and can promote rust...
