lappy Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 I was scanning through ebay looking for brake caliipers and I came across these http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...DME:B:TB18:AU:1 They are Honda Prelude 91-96 BB4 Front Calipers and have a 140mm bolt spacing so i went to the shed and measured A ke30 strut and they are 140mm exactly the same so this would suit KE30+55 and others I was wondering if this would be a cheap upgrade with some bigger discs cheaply? Opinions Please Quote
ancullen Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 They'd probably be a slight upgrade from the standard KE30/55 brakes, but not by much. They're only single piston calipers, but if the piston is significantly bigger diameter, then yes it will make a difference. Of course, I know where you can get some Series 4 RX7 four-piston calipers if you want them. :lolcry: Quote
Taz_Rx Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 (edited) yes they would be an upgrade as ancullen has stated, but...... click on honda and toyota here... http://www.dba.com.au/2006/catalogue_aust.asp The prelude discs are 260mm diametre, and a corolla has 218mm discs. You could just put the honda calipers straight on the ke30 hubs/discs, but to make the most of the upgrade, you really want bigger discs to. But then you would have to space out the caliper on the mounts to clear the bigger discs. Half a dozen of one, 12 of the other really. Other option, which is very similar to what I am about to do. Just use the honda calipers straight onto the ke30 hub, and then buy some new slotted and crossed drilled ke30 rotors. They're $150 a set from supercheap! Thats what I'm doing, but with rx4 calipers, not honda. :lolcry: Oh and why you selling the rx7 calipers ancullen!? something else in planning now? Edited July 3, 2007 by Taz_Rx Quote
ancullen Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 I've picked up an extra set of calipers that are excess to requirements. :lolcry: PM me if you're interested. Quote
lappy Posted July 3, 2007 Author Report Posted July 3, 2007 Ancullen: I was going to bid on that 2nd set of calipers you bought on ebay but i saw it was you so i held off. What is the bolt spacing on the rx7 calipers? Taz_Rx: good idea I have a mate at repco I wonder if they would have the same thing what brand were those discs? And what part number please. Quote
beerhead Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 (edited) Using my database I can get you a list of rotors to suit your size requirements, let me know if you want me to get some part numbers for you. Bolt up the caliper and work out exactly how tall the rotor needs to be to bolt up to the hub properly and be spaced properly. Edited July 3, 2007 by beerhead Quote

Thanks for that. :lolcry: What is the bolt spacing on the rx7 calipers? I've haven't got around to measuring that yet - I just know you need an adaptor bracket. Quote
lappy Posted July 4, 2007 Author Report Posted July 4, 2007 Ok thanks guys I might try and source some calipers locally because they want $40 postage + $40 for the calipers and I could probably find some cheaper locally and no one has bidded on the calipers they might get relisted for cheaper :lolcry: oh welll off to the wreckers with my set of verniers and a tape measure Quote
lappy Posted July 5, 2007 Author Report Posted July 5, 2007 (edited) I contacted the guy with the calipers on ebay and he sent me some more pics and some measurements here is the corolla caliper vs the honda caliper Corolla caliper Bolt Spacing= 140mm Piston Outer daimeter=42mm Piston Piston Outer daimeter at brake pad= 38mm Honda Prelude Caliper Bolt Spacing= 140mm Piston Outer daimeter=55mm Piston Piston Outer daimeter at brake pad= 55mm Edited July 5, 2007 by lappy Quote
VHR32 Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 RX7 calipers are 158.75 (6.25") between the holes. Why is using Honda single piston calipers on KE30 discs an upgrade?! I am about to do a brake conversion for a Corolla. Either VL (or RX7 calipers but doubt these will fit) and a 275mm vented disc. Trying to get them under a 14" rim! Quote

Thanks for the Rx7 spacings I'm looking into the honda Because I'm trying to do a cheap upgrade that has improved braking but I don't need 4 spot big disc braking I just want to give my brakes a bit more bite thank the tiny brakes i have now. You should write up a thread once you have finished your conversion I think many people may be intrested Quote

Yeah i'll write up an article and post it up for sure. Quote
lappy Posted July 5, 2007 Author Report Posted July 5, 2007 I will look at larger Rotors if they will fit and try and cross reference so I will have thicker and vented rotors which the preludes come with. Quote
