Pure-SX Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 Best bet would be to call up MVR or better yet TAC, usually they are quite helpful, I still have to call them in regards to my brakes. Quote
ancullen Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 My KE55 used to be registered with the current surge tank & dual pump setup. I'm pretty certain there are many cars getting around with such setups. Contact the MVR or TAC and they'll be able to answer your question, but I'm pretty certain you'll be okay. Quote
wasfishing Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 i understand the need for surge tanks and dual fuel pumps on caetain cars but do u really need them??? my understanding was u only really need them if ur running a crazy circuit car or sumthin that uses shit loads of fuel ie rota or v8 Quote

Pure-SX Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 I thought the whole purpose of the duel fuel pump/surge tank was for extreme circuit to completely eliminate surge? Plus for a daily drive the noise my fuel pump emits is so bloody annoying lol. Especially @ idle. Quote
wasfishing Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 thank god i didnt get flamed. thought i might bring up the setup in the gt40 just coz it might be of interest it has 3 fuel tanks two side tanks which run up either side of the car and one smaller tank not sure were it is but the 2 mains pump into the smaller tank makin a surge tank setup it has varius pumps and is really well setup for circuit but for street it will prob b very loud and annoying. this car will be awsome as and belive it or not I'm actually teasching the owner about efi stuff as he basically doesnt know anything hes a carbies guy Quote
ancullen Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 But the engine on the GT40 should be WAY louder than the fuel pumps - it had better be, anyway. Quote
Pure-SX Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 Please Shane for the love of god tell him to talk to someone else. But for daily driving I can't stand the sound of the stupid external vl turbo fuel pump. Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 (edited) The reason lift pumps and surge tanks are used is generally on cars which have been converted from carby to EFI. In a carby car, the fuel tank often doesn't have baffles, which means surges/starving of the fuel pump happen all the time. However, the carby itself acts as a surge tank (and the fuel pump is often in the engine bay), and so fuel supply to the engine is always constant. In an EFI car, the fuel pump is in the fuel tank, which is baffled to prevent the pump sucking in air instead of fuel and starving the engine. Cars which are converted to EFI often keep the old un-baffled carby tank, and thus need a surge tank (often tall and skinny, like a bottle) and lift pump to prevent surges from starving the fuel pump (which because of the pressure is a very bad thing). ancullen Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 It's someone else's Twin Cam he's stripping for parts. But yes, there is a Twin Cam being stripped for parts. I'm sure Stephen can put you in touch with the guy in question. Quote
