Robbo! Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 (edited) First of all id like to introduce myself, I'm Robert Davies, I'm 17 in 2 weeks and about 3 months ago i bought myself a 1983 Late model Ke70. It needed a good clean up and a good tune so i ended up scoring it for $500. I decided it being my first car, i should probly make it look good for its age. i don't have any before pics of the car unfortunetly :drgrim: The previous owner was a retired auto electrician and i must admit he wasnt very good. here is a picture of the dash and his wiring up custom guages. i decided i should also paint it and probably do it up for future racing possibly a track car. So ive stripped it ready for sanding..... this is my progress so far.... Edited January 10, 2008 by Robbo! Quote
marvis Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 Haha @ them gauges. What are you looking at doing to it? Quote
Robbo! Posted January 20, 2008 Author Report Posted January 20, 2008 lol yeh thanks they were there when i bought it. i got the whole interior our except for the aircon/heater. i can't be bothered to put the aircon back in so ill just leave it in there haha. well basically i want to respray it, and make it look fairly good to drive around the city until i get another car then i was thinking maybe track car? what are your thoughts? any hints or tips? I'm very interested @ radrollaz umm yeh the body is actually pretty good compared to some cars its age. except the boot was riddled with rust and bog lol but hopefully i should get it lookin all nice and schmick @ 13RENDAN 88 lol thank u someone finally agrees with me haha no it was all there when i bought it, everything was there, even had a little fan on the parcel shelf haha. i ripped out the interior myself so i could spray the interior and there was another reason but i couldnt remember lol Quote

I'm very interested If you want to go twin carbs then Dellortos in my opinion are the way to go. Budget at least $300-350 for a set off ebay (Thats where i scored mine for $300). You can buy the intake manifolds and linkages etc from any reputable automotive spares place. By no means a cheap thing to fit, But the induction sound is to die for.. Quote

Ok sweet as man thanks. what specifications for the dellortos do i need? ive heard all this "down draft", "side draft" stuff and its confusing haha and someone said 32/36? what does that refer to? oh sweet so repco could maybe order it in? btw how how much would i be lookin at for the manifold, linkages etc? Quote
Medicine_Man Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 My carbs are DHLA40s, a 32/36 downdraft is a cheaper option but doesn't flow as good as a twin sidedraft setup. depends which way the manifold and carb are set up, with sidedrafts the air comes in from the side, downdrafts the air comes in from the top.. I think the manifolds are around the $200 mark, linkages are probably about $50.. And then you need filters as well / Tune etc.. Quote
Robbo! Posted January 21, 2008 Author Report Posted January 21, 2008 oh ok thanks man. ill keep a look out I'm still in the progress of painting it haha. my friend said if i replace the valve springs i could reach higher revs? its a pretty dodgy source but I'm just following up lol Quote
Medicine_Man Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 Yeah, Get stronger valve springs if you are working the motor, read the FAQ, has some good info on building a tough K motor.. Extractors, Cam - pretty much the usual.. http://www.rollaclub.com/faq/index.php?tit...a_tough_K_motor Quote
Robbo! Posted January 21, 2008 Author Report Posted January 21, 2008 oh ok thanks heaps for ur help medicine man. i will post more pics up soon. Quote
Robbo! Posted March 17, 2008 Author Report Posted March 17, 2008 Hey guys, sorry about the very long dry spell. had money issues with new jobs and my girlfriend takes a lot of my time up but this is what ive got done while shes at tafe during the week. The whole car is now primed including a very dodgy engine bay prime. i don't have all the right tools and i have no skills in car respraying but I'm learning and i do with what i can. New pics Any tips for doing the engine bay without having to remove a lot of crap? i don't have the tools, skills or knowledge to rip the whole engine bay apart Quote
