Clown Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 If you have a flange join somewhere, make a plate with about 5-6 holes at approx. 8mm in dia. in it. That worked on a mates skyline. It will give a little bit more back pressure but its only for the epa test. Here's a bad effort for a diagram but I think you'll get the idea LB Aparrently thats not entirely legal, but hey the tyre place lets it pass! Gotta be carefull that you don't get done again for noise pollution soon after tgetting it cleared its a BIG BIG fine. Its kinda crap that you have to go through the hassle if the car is legal like my mr2 was! Good luck with it dude! Quote

webers4x48 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 RESULTS ARE IN... current exhaust.... dB N/A Current exhaust with flange and baffle plate dB 97.... 7 over with baffle plate, and massive muffler dB 79....11 under.. Pitty you had to get a bigger muffler. Hopefully you got a flange join on it so you can put your old one back on. Spewin that the flange plate didn't work. I'm thinkin of putting one of those VariFlow butterfly thingy's on mine. LB Quote
Sam_Q Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 those variable things are not legal if their full opened state is louder than 90db Quote
butty Posted April 3, 2008 Author Report Posted April 3, 2008 i put my original exhaust back on no longer then 4 min after the test with the quiet one... faxed away the paper work today...so i'm all sweet till they ping me again..but i did get a flange welded on just before the muffle so its easly interchangable..... the quiet one was about twice as long as my loud one...lol had it go on diagnally just to fit it haha Quote
webers4x48 Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 those variable things are not legal if their full opened state is louder than 90db My exhaust isn't legal any way so any improvement is good. I just don't want to go backwards by putting a smaller exhaust on it and then find out that I have to put the big 1 back on when I turbo it. i put my original exhaust back on no longer then 4 min after the test with the quiet one... faxed away the paper work today...so i'm all sweet till they ping me again..but i did get a flange welded on just before the muffle so its easly interchangable..... the quiet one was about twice as long as my loud one...lol had it go on diagnally just to fit it haha I hoped you did that :abuse: LB Quote
Clown Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 hope you don't get picked up within a few months, its a BIG BIG fine if you do. :abuse: Quote
