Redwarf Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 Let it be known to all that there is a zero tolerance on not putting your location in a classified advert. Be that for sale or wanted to buy. Your thread WILL be closed with no correspondence being entered into. Please don't go bleating to a Moderator to re-open it. Swallow your pride, start a new thread and get over it. Even better, put your location in your profile, that way you never have to worry about forgeting again. Excessive bumping is also on the rise as well. Please familiarise yourself with the Rollaclub policy which is slightly different to other boards. Particularly this bit: 7. You are not allowed to "bump" (reply) or revise your item more than 2 times in any week or your item(s) will be removed. Excess "bumping" is unnecessary and very annoying. No bumps are allowed within the first 5 days of posting your item. We are happy for you to answer any questions asked in your thread, but we would really like to see at least four days between discussion/activity and bumping. Use your common sense people. If everyone plays by the rules, it becomes fair and equitable to all. Threads are closed for good reason. Don't bitch about it, and if your going to have a go at mods in a subsequent thread, you had better; 1 Have a damn good reason. 2 Have all your facts right. If it's me, and I've made a mistake, I'll admit it. (Can and have before) If you up me because deep down you can't accept that you've made a mistake, you're in for a world of virtual hurt. Mod's don't get paid for the job they are doing, and, I'll be blunt, this isn't a democracy. You're here due to the good will of a number of people who keep this board going. Abide by the quite simple rules and everything will be peace, love and mung beans. Regards, Redwarf Quote
philbey Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 (edited) Redwarf, I've seen other Forums where moderators edit out irrelevant posts, stupid arguments and off topic rubbish. Is there any chance we could enforce more of this on RC? In particular, I've seen peoples "For Sale" and "Rides and Project" threads get out of hand and would like to see more editing of this, perhaps with the thread owners approval? TP. PS - there's been a proliferation of people saying ay, which is a mortal sin. Can we fix that too ay? Edited May 26, 2008 by philbey Quote
JiP Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 Maybe if the owner of that thread could delete unwanted posts? Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 Maybe if the owner of that thread could delete unwanted posts? Just send us a PM. If it needs moderation it will get it. Moderating things like conflicts keeps some people happy, but upsets others. No-one ever feels like they did anything wrong, but you make it seem that way when you delete their posts. People take offence. There is always someone who feels shafted. I prefer to only remove things which are way out of hand if I have to, otherwise its freedom of speech for all. Quote
Redwarf Posted May 27, 2008 Author Report Posted May 27, 2008 Redwarf, I've seen other Forums where moderators edit out irrelevant posts, stupid arguments and off topic rubbish. PS - there's been a proliferation of people saying ay, which is a mortal sin. Can we fix that too ay? *sigh* I know. Although I don't go in members rides that often, it's really becoming a problem (again) in the for sales area. This was the topic for a previous vent (that would be here: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=13869) but I felt like we really needed to go back to the basics here, as I'm getting a heap of "can you please open my thread, I didn't know" PM's. Get pulled over by the police and try that one on, and you get the "Ignorance is no excuse" talk. Which is what I've now adopted. :lolcry: Just remember that we already spend a great deal of time in here behind the scenes, and sorting out shit fights between keyboard warriors who apparently know better than me is not a highlight. I'm actually typing this in a cafe in Auckland, when I should be checking my work emails. It might be worth the thread starter to take a bit of ownership of his/her thread and either pulling people into line, or telling them (politely) to bugger off. I must say I'm not a fan of moderation of threads. I personally don't like doing it, and much prefer to let things run there natural course. Within reason. I think that Rollaclub is reasonably successful due to the fact that there isn't a lot of moderation. However the responsibility of this also lies upon the shoulders of the community at large. A certain amount of self regulation/ policing is required for things to run smoothly. Suffice to say that your comments have been noted, and hopefully the community at large will take note. (Ay.)
