Bonnet Lifters?

Recommended Posts

Hey i was lookin at my engine bay and bonnet and i have some gas lifters.

am toying with the idea of riggin em up.

but i can't see any easy way of doing it!

has anyone one toyed with this idea?

i'm thinkin the only way to do it is to bolt them to the strut towers.

could be dodgy.

u can get these bolts with ball tips on the end, they clip onto the lifter

have u got these or a different set up?

if u have i would jus drill a hole into the side of the quarter panel and put them in there....

yeah i have to drill through them.

the only porblem is that there isn't any room for the lifter to close down properly.

Yep, thats the big problem.

I have a few sets here i have thought about.

It seems the only way to do it and still get good hight out of your bonnet,

is to mount a single one, in a parallel to the firewall, about halfway down the firewall.

I have one that is a good length to fit on one side in front of the strut,

but it will not lift the bonnet high enough

Just a note. Some lifters are sold pretty cheap, but when the lifters are fully extended they are come out short.

In another word, the longer the better. Imagine having your bonnet to open 90 deg. for engine repairs.

FYI, Mercedes (the W123) model has 2 stage hinges. stage 1 for "normal" bonnet opening, and stage 2 is good for engine removal.
