Ae71 Welded Diff

Featured Replies

hey all i have an ae71 with ca18det..... i had the tailshaft made up for the std diff open wheeler, am going to weld it but i have heard of axles twisting and snapping, how long do you reckon it would last at around 200hp? what experiences have you had with welding these i.e. drivability vs performance gain?

Considering I used to snap axles with 115hp, I think it will last until the second or third time you side step the clutch.

Upgrade time.

i have a spare so now i can side step it 4-6 times :) i thought it might happen that way...... i will not be thrashin the piss out of it til i figure out what I'm gona do about it.... how long will it last in a straight line? :(

I don't understand why you would go through all the trouble of putting a ca18det in a ke70 only to run the stock diff..

Considering the S13s run either an R180 (7.2 inch) for non-turbos or an R200 in the turbos (8 inch) how the hell the standard borgwarner (6.38 inch) is supposed to survive for any length of time I'll never know. Even a T series (6.7 inch) wouldn't take it. I've even seen the R200s detonate with 350hp and some sticky tyres.

wtf? when did this become a thread for name calling? i am a 3rd year apprentice mechanic on a budget living out of home I'm sure nearly everyone on rollaclub can appreciate that. i know its not gona last forever, all i asked was what other peoples experiences were. please keep that sort of shit to yourself. when i have enough money i plan to run a tarago diff with suitable LSD centre.

btw have you done a full conversion without the car spending even one night in a workshop?

also i hardly expect that sort of shit from admin,

Yes in fact, I have. I despised all workshops until I finally found a good one...about 2 years after the car was "finished".

You'll get used to it. Lower your expectations now to avoid further insult :( ...OK OK Maybe I am a bit of a shithead in the mornings

theres a bloke in adelaide pushing 200kw at the rears with an sr20 n he stil runs the standard diff, lol

he changes axles regurlaryly

so uve made up a custom tailshaft to suit a ca to borgwarner diff but when the time comes to upgrage to a hilux diff or whatever your going to use your gonna need another custom tailshaft whitch costs more money its best to do it once do it right if u do things on a budget they end up costing more casue you hae to redo them

i agree but being a mechanic has its advantages the tailshaft only cost me 150 from driveline services here in brizzy and i asked about how much to weld on a new flange and they said theyd do it for me for a case of beer ;) no other corners have been cut with this conversion so i think ive done well. i will run the std diff so it can be tuned on the dyno then i will look into changin it after that. btw i work 1 street from my house so i don't need a car :(
