Gspec Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Are there any text books or reference books that is required for apprentices or recommendable. I am aiming at getting my qualifications through an RPL but because my feild is so broad yet so specific any additional knowledge/reference would be definatley helpfull. :y: Quote
Medicine_Man Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 RPL isn't usually a problem as long as you haven't done courses through the likes of MTAQ.. All the material you need is provided by the TAFE you attend as part of the fee.. Quote
Gspec Posted September 30, 2008 Author Report Posted September 30, 2008 RPL isn't usually a problem as long as you haven't done courses through the likes of MTAQ.. All the material you need is provided by the TAFE you attend as part of the fee.. The issue is I am full time and am unable to do a an apprenticeship so I can't do the accociated Tafe course. My RPL is hindered by the "pro" i'm learning from also doesn't hold the required cert (long story), however I may be able to get around this through proving adequite knowledge on the subject. Anyways, without an excessive explaination, the right books with the right knowledge is what i'm after right now. Cheers :y: Quote
Medicine_Man Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I did a 6 week block of TAFE in March/April this year (Cert III In Automotive Electrical Technology).. most of the auto electrical course modules start with "AURE" From memory there are like 24 modules and you do 6 modules each block.. (Meant to be a 4 year course). For the RPL through TAFE you would have had to have already completed a module or the equivalent before, Don't think other people can sign you off for it as you have to have sat a test.. I can get you a list of the modules tomorrow if you want, My TAFE book is at work because I'm getting my first year modules signed off.. Quote
Gspec Posted September 30, 2008 Author Report Posted September 30, 2008 Cheers for your help Medicine_man, I appreciate it greatly. To my understanding I can't do a Tafe course unless I am an apprentice. That option is not possible. HOWEVER, if a person has succsessfully engaged in a particular trade for a particular length of time, and can proove suficient knowledge in said feild, they can become certified. Although i have not quite yet met that time factor, because my feild has no specific certification, my bosses and I are trying to get around this. If i can proove suficient knowledge in the multiple trades i work in, i may be able to get certs in 1, if not all, of them. I'm going for auto elec. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 There is a lot of theory behind the auto electrical apprenticeship, I Don't think you can just get a trade from having experience in a few practical areas.. What is your level of experience in auto electrics? Quote
Trev Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 RPL - Recognition of Prior Learning, You can claim some school stuff like cooking and shit. Quote
Gspec Posted October 1, 2008 Author Report Posted October 1, 2008 Lets cut the irrelevant talk.... I have had at 16 years informal experince with automitive elec experience...payed experince, a little shy of a decade...No short cuts or que jumping. I don't require the cert to continue to be paid as an auto elec, I simpley want a cert for self gratification. My situation is quite unusual so my requirments for getting the cert differ from the norm. I am not fresh out of school or new to the work force. I have already done the ground work to determine the appropriate actions I require to get the cert. Done and done. all i ask is if anyone can recommend some good books on the subject (preferably Aus standards) so I can touch up on my knowledge in case there are particular/preffered procedures that i am not aware of. SIMPLE :y: :hmm: :y:  :n: Quote
