Falken_KE30 Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Just curious on how these work? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/MSD-6AL-IGNITION-CO...1QQcmdZViewItem I'm guessing it hooks to coil and dizzy, and allows for better spark?? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Go and wiki etc "capacitive discharge ignitions" or "CDi" as I can't bother explaining it. :y: And here's the Rocket Industries listing... http://www.rocketindustries.com.au/descrip...?partno=MSD6420 They're basically an ignitor that also boosts spark. The "L" on the end just means it has a built in rev limiter. And yes, it goes BETWEEN the dizzy and coil. :hmm: Quote
orangeLJ Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 (edited) MSD stands for multi spark distributor. In laymans terms, stronger spark, more efficient burn process and in most cases a power gain of some sort. MSD6AL have a built in feature allowing you to rev limit the engine via the ignition system, (good for running in new engines) I run an old MSD5 on my I6 202 in my LJ, cleaned up my fuel economy, and stopped it fouling plugs (until I could get the correct needles for the triple carbs) Also, as above, it comes with a loom, it has a wire to the coil, and a couple wires to the dizzy. On thing though, installing an MSD ignition system usually means you need to run an aftermarket tacho or buy an adapter for the one you have. (most older tachos wil not work with the signal of the MSD) Edited October 10, 2008 by orangeLJ Quote
