i want to build/use a good k series enigne to put into an old corolla. but what engine will i get the best results from with the 2 speed box??

i was considering building a 3/4k hybrid as i have a good 4k bottom and a good 3k head. will this go ok with the box??

i also have a 5k, would this be a good/bad idea??

so basically what does everyone think i should use??

thanks

oh and u can have the 5k, 4 speed box, a good ke70 diff, 5 good tyres and rims, and a complete ke70 with a nice interior, cd player, 2 6" speakers, for $400 ono

personally i wouldn't bother with the toyoglide. if you've ever driven with one, they are SLOW. imagine a manual corolla with 2nd and 4th only, that's what it's like. but worse

if you have to have a tough auto, get the trimatic out of a ke70 (maybe ke55 too?), at least it's got 3 speeds and you know it will stand up to anything you can throw at it with a 4 cylinder, considering the same gearbox stands up behind a warm 202 no worries. it's also got a pretty high stall from factory, so you don't even need to upgrade that =)

when you can make a manual BT1 VL run 8s like the autos do, you can say autos are gay. the record last time i checked late last year was 10.52

BTW, Super Jaime has a point. If you look at american NHRA dragsters at least, you will see that all of the outlaws and up all run 3 speed or 4 speed autos, or they run air shifters. Its hard to get off the line with 700 horsepower and a clutch without igniting the back tires untill they blow! The cars with air shifters get away with it because they ride the clutch all the way down the track, part of the reason that their engines sound like they stay at the same revvs the whole way down the track.

Yes, powerglides are two speed automatics. As far as I know, anything with a torque converter would be considered an automatic... I personally have not seen an air-shifted transmission out of the car it came in though, but it seems like it would be closer to a manual, because the ones I am thinking of have levers coming out of the dash corresponding to each gear... you just keep pulling levers untill you run out of gear :D

the advantage of an automatic transmission (in a drag racing application) is the ability to change the characteristics of the stall converter. accompany this with a transbrake and you can keep trying different setups until you get the perfect launch

the quickshift is helpful, but secondary to the above

the guy from sub zero on the goldcoast has a drag gtr skyline with a 2 speed powerglide in it. still attessa awd system as well
