reCOUPErator Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Hey people, put my rolla on ULP finally has done around 180k's on it so far but it has to go in to have the timing adjusted and have a tune! it lasted around 100k'm before any problems now it pings (rattles) under load! and takes a while to actually die when ignition is turned off (aparently called advanced ignition or timing or something), And it takes a little longer to turn over when starting but can't complain! Seem's to have more power now, although i have to fix the overheating problems! (will start with a new thermostat and go from there) Quote
demuire Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Haikal's car has problem with "running on" too. How do you remove the carbon from the head? I always thought it was caused by incorrect timing... Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 the weber dg series are notorious for this.....if your idle is above 800; it will diesel(run on, etc) Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 i know you can get your engine all warmed up, then rev it up while pouring warm water down the carb....this is an old trick taught to me. it does work, i have personally gotten a big piece of carbon stuck in a valve seat, thus i wouldn't recommend it to anyone with piston/valve clearance issues if you do get some thing stuck, just rev the hell outta it...it'll clear Quote
demuire Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 (edited) Well, the strange thing is it only seems to happen after it's been for a long drive (ie, down the highway etc). If I just drive to the shops or whatever, it's fine. And mind you, I think it has a 4.5:1 diff or something, and a 4 speed, so going down the highway means it's revving pretty hard... Mr Hardware Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Yeah I've done 10,000km in my KE55 with a 4K-C on ULP and I can't complain Seems to run rather well, its got the get up and go that i like I use FLASHLUBE additive, i find it gives me a bit more billy-o and doesnt seem to run as hot and better fuel economy. Good stuff. I only ever have the running on problem when i've been on the highway fanging it for a while. Probably to do with similar reasons to what demuire said, cept mines got a 4.11:1 diff and a Five speeder. Still, it ain't exactly taking it easy at 130kmh. I'm going to continue to run it on ULP. Can't wait to get my next car though... mmm LPG... mmm 40c/Litre... mmm Quote
demuire Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Well we've changed the sparkies not too long ago, with the ones that are supposed to be for the 4K so I guess that rules that out. It doesn't appear to be running exceptionally hot or anything, so maybe it's running lean. Or has lots of carbon. Dunno. Maybe we should fix it sometime... Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 a de-coke is taking off the head and cleaning it...... check ya timming Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 hmm weird, they do it on a dyno. shouldnt get coked up unless somethings wrong anyway! Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 what if the counter wieghts are screwed up? it could overadvance as the rpm increases also after a hot run; those little sharp edges of carbon will glow setting off the fuel Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 yeah maybe, but that much extra carbon is not a good sign.... with a modern engine it should NEVER coke up. an old k series maybe.. but not a new efi engine Quote
wyldephyre Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 I've started a wiki entry on decoking: http://www.rollaclub.com/wiki/index.php?ti...e/Decarbonising Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 if my my sti was coking up id take it back and tell them to fix it or give my $$$ back Quote
reCOUPErator Posted May 1, 2005 Author Report Posted May 1, 2005 hey i havnt read the last 50 posts cos i'm 2 tired from the INFMS cruise last night we didnt get hme til 4:15 am! ne way i had a new radiator installed the other day and since it has been running cooler it seems to be running better and turning off etc! The temp guage hasnt left the C yet which is awwsome as it used to run on 1/2 and lately before the new radiator almost boiling! Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 And it went in coked, and came out OK with a good dyno sheet so did they find out what was wrong with it?? Quote
