Super Jamie Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 i don't think the words "very much" and "power" can be used in the same sentence as "stock 4k" Quote
ROLLN'03 Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 Well, I'm not sure on how it would run on a stock 4k, because mine is a little more than stock. So the differences really couldnt be compared.... But for my setup, it changed the output enough to feel the difference... Quote
ROLLN'03 Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 Since my 4k isn't stock, you couldn't really compare the differences before and after the induction. I recommend it, as with my 4k it HAS increased the top speed and of the line acceleration. Although at times, the induction noise can become quite annoying, there is nothing better than and old banger, sucking its **** off. I had the pod and induction pipe running for a little while, with another piece of plastic pipe running from the front of the car up to the pod. The increase in performance changed considerably, but as it took forever for the cold air to rush from the front of the pipe to the end, it was not as effective as direct airflow through the bonnet scoop. With the pod, induction pipe, and cold air pipe, it also takes up a lot of room in the engine bay. On a worked 4k, proper cold air induction is almost necessary, I think… * Even just with the scoop, there is an incredible difference driving in the heat of the day, compared to the coolness of the night… Quote
Super Jamie Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 oh yeah, yours isn't stock :D even when i take the air filter off mine, i can notice a difference all over the rev range Quote
reCOUPErator Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 hey guy's put my pod etc on 2 nite! took around 2.5 hours cos i got interupted and had to make it up as i went! sounds different on intake, noticeable but not exessive woosh! had to put a small breather on one of the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventelation) which whistles slightly but doesnt matter 2 much. Have a look at how it turned out! defiately looks better even if it dosent increase the performance! Quote
Tiger Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 (edited) All you need now is a BOV to run strictly off air induction (as some people do for some reason!!!) and your rolla will sound fully tabouli, re!!!! (pssssshhhht!!!) Please don't take me seriously on this thread.... if you do.... I wipe my hands clean! hahahaha Edited May 29, 2005 by Tiger Quote
Josho Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 (edited) I thought about a pod for mine but decided just to modify original filter. Cost nothing... (aluminium was free) All that was done was cutting the aluminium to cover the area the filter takes up and drilling a hole for it to bolt on (required a bit of pressing around the area the stud comes through as it wasn't quite long enough to get the nut on) Gives it a meaty induction noise. Pulls a tiny bit harder, but overall... it is still slow... Edit - I've also got the stock CAI pipe that runs into the guard back on. Edited May 29, 2005 by Josho Quote
KE30Coupe Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 I don't know if this belongs here or in a new post but I was having a yak to a bloke over a latte this morning (Oh man that sounds wanky), anyway we were talking cars as you do and I was telling him about my little project and he came up with the following suggestion, claims he ran it in his car a few years back. Air compressor in the boot coverted to 12v power with a hose running through a valve situated next to the driver which then ran to a cover on the carby. The cover he claims was shaped like a cone with a valve on the side which would be used to change the airflow to the carb and the air hose fitted on top. During normal driving conditions the valve would be open to allow the air in as per normal however when the compressed air was released via the valve in the cabin the air pressure would close the valve and result in compressed air induction giving a performance BOOST. He said that you needed to play around with the air compressor settings until you obtained optimum performance but that it worked a treat when set up right. He claimed that you could get maybe a minute and a half of boost out of this set up before you had to allow the compressor to recompress to the required level or whatever the hell it does. Now while he was telling me this my BS sensors were tingling a little but I'm not sure, so I thought I would ask you. My initial thoughts were that the fuel mixture would go out the window with so much air going in at such a fast rate and would therefore cause the engine to run lean and no real power gain. I could be wrong as I so often am but let me know. Quote
Super Jamie Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 i tried a similar thing with a 5k van bonnet. i found the plenum area of the bonnet to be too small for good performance Quote
