ok so i recently purchased a 94 csi hatchback for dirt cheap

and i knew it had engine problems

i took it to a family friend who is a mechanic and we thought we found the problem

put in thermostat

new head gasket

new hoses

new water pump and i still have the same problem

whenever i take it for a little bit of a thrash it overheats on me

does anyone know what could be the problem?

is it the engine? it's only done 160,000km as well

no matter what i seem to do it just goes back to the same thing

would an engine swap solve this?

if so what is recommended

if someone could help me out it would be appreciated

thanks

radiator flush...could be blocked ?

yeah i did that as well. it was fairly blocked lol. everything seemed fine till i got it home. then the temperature gauge jumped up

it's fairly frustrating

and the only response i got from the mechanic was 'drive it normally'

i've driven older vehicles with more kms on the clock and i've never had it happen to me before

if you have flushed your radiator already check your thermostat it could be sealed shut!

it's an automatic

i was abit blunt on the details

so i'll add a bit more

so its a 1994 corolla csi ltd hatch

and it had engine problems to begin with

so first just flushed out all the old water it was all orange, clearly from the owner running it on water all these years

so waited till it wasn't so bad

then installed a thermostat as it didn't have one previously

and new head gasket as the old one was pretty much non-existant due to the corrosion

all was well for maybe 30-40 minutes

drove into the city and then one of the hoses burst because running it on water destroyed it, so i bought new hoses

installed them

then took it back to the mechanic and he noticed that the water pump was fairly battered so he replaced it

and at the same time he used that solution to flush out all the bullshit that could be sitting there

then drove it home it was ok. went to pick up a mate and noticed the temp was flying up again

one of the welds in the pipes was f@$ked, leaking everywhere

so took it back to the mechanic and he fixed that

i got it back today and all was well till literally 2 streets away from home

i punched it on a round about and when i left it, the temp jumped up again

got home, checked under the hood and it was just bubbling, no leaks at all.

i looked at what some of you have said and i'm guna take it into consideration

but is it possible that due to everything else being corroded by long usage of water that the radiator could be in the same state as some of the parts were? so should i replace the radiator?

or could there still be a blockage somewhere?

or is everything just so far gone that i should just look for a new engine?

i was actually considering to upgrading to a 4A-GZE, but if it's not the engine and it's something else screwing up on me i don't know if i want to spend stupidly

any advice is appreciated thank you

Does the fan work?

yeah the fan works fine

everything seems to be fine untill it cops a bit of a beating lol

but it's not even an extreme beating, i drove it for like 20 minutes today giving it every so often to check if everything is ok and it was fine

till the home stretch

coolant overflow bottle?

i believe so lol

the whitish container on the right side

i'm not too sure about the terms =[ lol

it was just bubbling and boiling

i'm most likely changing the thermostat in a short while

and if that doesn't fix it

i'll prob replace the radiator

could that be it?
