Super Jamie Posted May 22, 2005 Report Posted May 22, 2005 angela in SA has a 5k ke10 which makes about 215bhp
Tiger Posted May 22, 2005 Author Report Posted May 22, 2005 (edited) Yeah I read up about that. Like all projects... it has it's pros and it's cons. Looks like a N/A 5K is the safest and cheapest shot for the moment... until I think of an engine I wanna mess around with! And that most likely will be the 4AGZE with a 20V head on it. That was my original plan for the first one, until I sold it and I through away all my contacts for the conversion! Oh well, time get the yellow pages out again! hahaha Edited May 22, 2005 by Tiger
irokin Posted May 22, 2005 Report Posted May 22, 2005 ROTARIES ARE NOT RELIABLE I resent comments like that. What did you expect? Theyre a performance motor. They last just as long as any other performance motor. Youve also got to look after them different to piston engines. i.e. you will kill them if you don't give them shit! (carbon builds up and kills the seals)
mikeys toy[RL] Posted May 22, 2005 Report Posted May 22, 2005 i have a bit of experience with rotaries; i agree with you i would NEVER have one for a daily driver/cruiser. but a race car............ i miss my rx-4
Tiger Posted May 23, 2005 Author Report Posted May 23, 2005 This is going off topic I know, but it i one of my enquiries, which I may as well keep in this thread, save me starting a new one. What are the motors out of the TA22 Celicas? Would one of these puppies fit and would it be worth it (power gain wise)? With the steel case gearbox and diff to suit?
wilson_610 Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 I got a 2T-GEU in mine, 5 speed Aluminium box. I'm using standard ke70 diff (changed the engine/ gearbox into the ke70)
Super Jamie Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 yes, you can put a 2T into a corolla. some people think this is a bit nose heavy, but they came out with these factory in america you can find a complete conversion guide on jonny rochester's page http://www.geocities.com/jonnyr_1973/
mikeys toy[RL] Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 ya, almost nobody got the k engine once the t engine came out you couldn't even get one after '77
Tiger Posted May 24, 2005 Author Report Posted May 24, 2005 Super Jamie, thanks heaps for that link. That was very informative. Gives me something to think about. Thanks guys for all your imput on this thread
mikeys toy[RL] Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 i've got a '74 california 2tc...i don't know what it'd cost to ship it to there though
Tiger Posted May 24, 2005 Author Report Posted May 24, 2005 What are the specs on it? Only thing I'm thinking of though is me paying taxes on it and stuff for international freight. But hey, if I don't like the prices I'm getting here, who knows.... could be a worthy option (rubs chin and grins)
Tiger Posted May 27, 2005 Author Report Posted May 27, 2005 OK.... to close this topic off with a conclusion, I have decided to not do a V8 conversion (unless I decided to build it for strip use only) and being it will be a daily thrasher (hey, I'm honest!) I'm chosing the 5K motor (which I have been quoted $600-$900 for a motor) and I'll work it to a point where it has enough power to move the car once I have finished the stereo! hahahaha Gearbox, well I have the factory 5 speed on there at the moment, when that packs in, then I'll swap it over to a Celica 5 speed (which I know will need cash to make a plate to fit) and a Celica diff to match. Sounds like a plan? If I've missed anything, let me know. I just wanna double check things to be safe :)
mikeys toy[RL] Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 i dunno what the specs are, but it's a '73 build 2tc, small oil pan, 110 h.p. it had only like 98,000 mi on it in a wagon in front of an auto. the auto went bad and they parked it. it had been parked for 17 years, i filled the carb up, bolted the starter back in and fired it right up....no knock, no smoke, ran good for about 30 seconds it also has the factory a/c compressor i just saved it 'cause i couldn't bear to throw it away i'd sell it for like $100usd then you got shipping....maybe 200-300aud?
Tiger Posted May 27, 2005 Author Report Posted May 27, 2005 Should be cool. I'm deciding to stick with the 5K for now... Thanks though for the offer :)
Tiger Posted June 13, 2005 Author Report Posted June 13, 2005 Just reading over this thread again. I suppose we can lock it now that I don't own a KE35 and I ain't sticking a 253 V8 in it... nor any V8 for that matter.. so any moddie can :(( at will! :blinks:
