springersrolla Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 hey hey probably keep pestering u guys as i go ive got a rebuilt 3k just looked at the strainer and its bit shorter by a 1/2inch than a 4k 5k unit, it doesnt rub on the sump just wondering if i should keep the 3k unit or the lower pickup on the 4k. The 4k has a much finer mesh on the pickup as well are these interchangeable? Also whos had luck with the size of washers in the cup/split pin end of the pump i have some 1.5mm 2mm and 1mm washers just wanna know what i should run i think superjaime said he ran a 2mm thanks fellas and sorry bout constant messages cheers Quote
philbey Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 I ran extra washers but haven't got my oil pressure gauge running yet. I think I put about 3mm worth in. As for the pickups I never realised they were different! Quote
Felix Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 I'd use whatever pickup matches your sump. The sumps on later motors are a bit deeper, which would explain the longer pickup. Quote

If you're building a 3k, use the 3k oil pump, pickup and sump. If you're build a 4k, use a 4k oil pump, pickup and sump. a 3k sump won't fit on a 4k or 5k anyway. 4k and 5k are interchangable though.
