During a clean up of the engine bay today i noticed i have a small coolant leak coming from the lower part of the engine just above the sump.

 

Any thoughts?

Can you find a drip above it somewhere with a small mirror and a torch??

 

Water pump, thermostat, hose junction... usual suspects...

nah, its coming from where u can see the top of the leak. looks like a gasket or sumthing has/ or is starting to die

You sure its not oil ? Cause the coolant passages don't go any lower then the cylinder bores which would mean that the coolant is coming from else where and pooling in that spot till it overflows

i would take the timing covers off to check the water pump,as they have top and bottom weep holes.

Agree. If thats the case a new water pump is in order.

The 4AFE/7AFE engines are very well known for water pump and bypass hose coolant leaks... Everyone leaks sooner or later...

 

Have a look down the back of your block and underneath your water pump, guarateed to be leaking from those areas...

cheers guys, I'm gunna try have a better look at it this weekend, now the engine bay is clean i should be able to track down exactly where the leak is coming from.

well, i had a look under the car this weekend and guess what? no sign of coolant anywhere.

it could be nothing, but I'm gunna keep an eye things anyway to see if it comes back again.

Take the car for a fang and get the motor up to operating temp, cause most times a leak wont show up till everythings all nicely warmed up and expending at different rates.

Take your car to a mechanic and get it pressure tested... Better off finding the leak now than after your car overheats and does damage...
