dysolve Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Hi all, How hard is it to get a 3t in to a ke20?? Thanks Quote
Redwarf Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 A bit. What do you define as being hard? Quote
dysolve Posted May 29, 2005 Author Report Posted May 29, 2005 do the engine mounts matchup? do i have to modify the tunnel?what drive shaft do i use, will the 3k diff handle the 3t power? Quote
Redwarf Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Okay. No, the engine mounts don't line up. No, you don't have to modify the tunnel, and the bolt holes are already in the car to put a T50 in. You'll have to get a custom tailshaft. Will the diff handle the power? Yes and no. Yes it will if you just want to drive it around, No it won't if you abuse it. You will also need to change the clutch from a cable system to hydraulic. Quote
dysolve Posted May 29, 2005 Author Report Posted May 29, 2005 Thanks for that reply, very helpful. Do you think its worth my while doing the conversion I can get the 3t plus t50 for A$600 engine has less the 20000km on it not sure about the box. All i really want is a daily driver with a little bit of go and fun in it, and a five speed box. Is there any engine conversion that is bolt in? will the t50 box fit behind the 3k? Quote
demuire Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Actually, if you use the older style T50 (that came in Celicas, and with any other car that came with a T engine), you can use the standard Corolla tailshaft. You'll only need a custom job if you change to the later T50 (AE86 etc). Quote
Redwarf Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 (edited) You learn something every day. ^^^ Go for a 4/5K motor. If you do a search you should come up with a heap of info. T50's will go on the back of K motors, but only if you have an adaptor bellhousing, which are quite rare. However, if it's a 3t-c, it will have a later T50 (T-18) box, with the shifter on the rear end, which I believe mine is, although I know my front yoke is Corolla going to Celica. Hmmmmm Edited May 29, 2005 by Redwarf Quote
demuire Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 (edited) T50 boxes have same input spline. This could be same as K motor? Not sure. Early T50s have same output as K40/50 (Corolla) box. Late ones have bigger output splines, hence you need a different yoke on the tailshaft. Late ones also have shifter further back. K40/50 boxes are similar in that early ones have shifter forward, later ones have shifter back. Not sure about splines. AFAIK there are 3 different types of T50: There is early T50, which has T bellhousing, small bearings, forward shifter with small output shaft. These came on TA22, among others. There is "in between" T50, which has T bellhousing, I'm not sure about bearings, probably small, rearward shifter, and I think big output shaft (but not sure). This came in T18, maybe others? Then there is late T50, which has A bellhousing, big bearings, rearward shifter, big output shaft. These came in AE71, AE86, among others. Edited May 29, 2005 by demuire Quote
Redwarf Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Ahhh, always educational. Put me down as a V2! Quote
demuire Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 For anyone who's interested, the early T50's (with the forward shifter) will bolt straight into a KE30/55 (and maybe KE20). Shifter comes out the correct spot, crossmember (with very minor modifications - enlarging the center hole) bolts on, tailshaft slides on. The later T50's (with the rearward shifter) will bolt into a KE70 et al, shifter comes out the correct location etc. Tailshaft also slides on, AFAIK. So, with a KE20 if you put in a later T50, you'll have to cut the floor for the shifter to come out. Quote
dysolve Posted May 30, 2005 Author Report Posted May 30, 2005 Thanks again you guys are legends Quote
