ASH-035 Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 Hi there everyone, Id like to start by saying i am a complete amateur in the world of corolla`s as ive have been a datsun from my red P`s until now. i have recently bought an awsome condition KE35 coupe with BIG plans which i had for my 1200 ute which unfrotuntaly got rear ended by a light truck. Ive been doing alot of reading on this forum about front strut upgrades. My plan is to go coil over front with a VT commodore disc/caliper/stud pattern. My question is would i be better off having a coilover custom made to suit this brake upgrade or can i go with the corona/celica strut and convert it to a coilover. there is a zoom magazine with a SR20 powered KE35 coupe with a modified VN strut with VS caliper setup in it so it looks like there is a fair amount i can play with. Any information you guys can give me will be very helpful Cheers, Ash Quote
anastasios Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 why do you need brakes that big? Quote
silverra23 Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 Unless you are running some truly crazy engine power, the XT130 Corona/Peugeot Ventilated Disc/Corona or Hilux Caliper is going to be more than sufficient for your needs and a whole lot less stuffing around. The Corona strut can easily be converted to coil-over and more cheaply than you would buy a set of coil overs for a Commodore too I am tipping - I believe these are still crazy expensive, though Otomto is bringing in a conversion kit for them soon. I imagine Hoppers Stoppers would be able to put a kit together for you to fit Commodore brakes to it if you really want them, they do for just about every other car. Quote
ASH-035 Posted August 11, 2009 Author Report Posted August 11, 2009 Hey guys, Thanks for the replies, as for the need for big brakes, my 1200 ute was CA18DET powered with a best of 12.2 1/4mile backing off as it use to get really loose at the end of the track, it had a VS commodore front caliper on custom machined discs with a coilover setup up front and the R31 disc rear end. i am planning on using the car for drag racing purposes as was my ute, the car will be quicker so the need for bigger brakes is required. at the moment anything is better then my idea as it wont be cheap to do, but in the end i want it to stop as well if not better then my ute did. fusion Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 (edited) AE86 struts with RX7 upgrade . . minimum 15" rim I think. I don't know a hell of a lot about it . . but apparently it does it job for big brakes. Probably need other stuff to accompany it like rear end brakes, brake bias, master upgrade etc Edited August 11, 2009 by fusion Quote
towe001 Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 And another one using Commodore calipers with adapter, Magna discs and T18 struts http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=10466 Pity about the photos, but i think the write up is also on the toymods forum (either the new forum or its the old one) Quote
