original Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Right, just need another brain to confirm that Ive cooked my ECU. Yesterday I was trying to fix my head light when I blew some fuses, but think I blew more than that. For a bit I had limp home mode, but then everything died, no engine light, no fuel prime, nothing. All other electrics, lights, stereo, heater etc are all still fine. Pulled the ECU out and it just revs as if it was still plugged. Anyone got one I could borrow and perhaps buy if it fixes it? Hiro Protagonist Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 How can the car run without the ECU in there? They control both fuel and ignition (some _older_ ones are fuel only), so it is impossible for the car to run without it plugged in. Quote
original Posted September 20, 2009 Author Report Posted September 20, 2009 How can the car run without the ECU in there? sorry the correct term should have been cranks, was in a hurry. main link to the ecu at the main fuse had come loose when I was inspecting the headlight relay, which fooled me into thinking the ecu was dead Now to fix my lights :jamie: Quote
parrot Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 I was over a fellow forum members place recently, and he was stripping out an AE86 that had taken a very hard hit in the passenger door area. The A pillar and B pillar were wrecked. Interestingly, the ECU was in the factory location behind the passenger kickpanel and had also clearly sustained damage in the impact. The car still ran. ECU's are clearly tougher than you would think, yet if you fry the internals, you can forget about it. Quote
rob83ke70 Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 just like all computers, sometimes they put up with a hiding and sometimes they die unexplicably. we had a hiace trh203r ecu (under drivers seat) die due to water damage and it couldn't be repaired either.... not nice.
