Scott_87 Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 Hey guys just wondering bought meself a 5 speed box from the wreckers and the front end bearing and thrust bearing were gone. They fortunate for me refunded my money. I've bought a new 5 speed and before putting it would like to check if I need to replace the thrust bearing or as some people I've noticed called it the throw away bearing, what should I look for I.E really loose nice and tight? Anything else worth checking this time before installing? Also what oil is reconmended? thanks people Scott Quote
Evan G Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 just replace the throw out bearing, you should recieve a new one with your clutch kit, i would replace it, nothing like a squueling throw out bearing :jamie: Quote
Scott_87 Posted September 21, 2009 Author Report Posted September 21, 2009 Clutch kit? Do u know who has the bearings or is it just a sprint job? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 Can get the bearing by itself from any parts shop (repco, bursons etc) for around $10. For the cost an effort required I think its worth doping nearly every time you remove the gearbox. Quote
philbey Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 I've never heard it called a throw away bearing, perhaps throw OUT bearing is what you're thinking of, I'm don't reckon it's called that because of it's disposable nature. Anyway, yes, replace it if you have the box out. Check the clutch is decent as well of course.... Quote
LukeAE71 Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 Last time I bought a throw out bearing it was $12. Do you really want to put it all together, spend hours working on it only to find you are annoyed because the bearing is noisy and for the measly sum of $12 and a few minutes work you needn't have had to worry about it at all. Just Do It :jamie: Quote
Evan G Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 i replaced the front bearing (was pitted) and the rear one (for no reason) just to be sure it wasnt gonna be noisy Quote
