uiz733 Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 My clubman 7 has a KE55? rear axle. The handbrake cable exits from the front (ahead of the axle) of the backing plate as standard currently. The cable and mechanism would work much better (smoother) if the backing plates were reversed (ie. swapping left to right) to allow the cable to exit behind the axle. What would the implications of this swap be? Would general braking OR handbrake function be affected in any way? Regards Quote
rob83ke70 Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 the trailing shoe would now be the leading shoe and would wear faster. thats about it i think? feel free to correct me if i'm wrong everyone Robert. Quote
corollaart Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 (edited) Yes what he said, don't no if you could turn the the shoes around as well :) rob Edited October 4, 2009 by corollaart Quote
rob83ke70 Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 actually, yes the shoes are different (leading and trailing) and you can fit them the other way from memory... robert. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 If you swap the backing plates then the handbrake cable entry points are going to point towards the back of the car!! Flipping them upside down would point them back to the front of the car, but then you'd need to modify the brake lines and I don't think the backing plate to axle bolts are in a square so you'd have to re-drill the backing plates to suit. All in all, put it in the "Too hard basket" cause you're not going to get any real gain from it. :) Quote
