Chief Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 hey everyone I'm just undertaking changing my front shocks and I'm soo stuck could anyone give me some help does the whole strut come out or is it just a top cartridge thing sooo stuck :jamie: cheers Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Remove the spring top hat, spring and rubber boot (if it has one). You'll then see there's a nut in the top of the strut tube. Remove that - you might need to use a hammer and punch to loosen it, and then you can lift out the shock. Reverse order for re-assembly. :jamie: Quote
Chief Posted October 15, 2009 Author Report Posted October 15, 2009 :jamie: cheers boys I'm probably gonna do a thread on it cause i was soo lost lol but yea i finally compressed the spring and it all flowed from there  but i have one more question is there anyways i can get the brake hose to come apart from the strut? thanks for all your help :bash: Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 I can't quite remember if the corolla ones are 1 or 2 piece :jamie: confused with that and my mazda. As far as I can remember they're one piece though. You need to remove the steel>rubber connection where it goes through the guard. Then there's a little metal clip that hold the hose to the strut. Lift that one and then you can pull the hose off the strut. Quote
Chief Posted October 15, 2009 Author Report Posted October 15, 2009 hey mate ive got one more question....for now lol i can't get the hex thingo on the top of the shock off ive been hitting it with a punch but it doesnt seem to turn is it threaded cuz it just doesnt seem to move or is it like a pop thingo? (excuse my very technical terms like thingo and doodad i use them alot) Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 If you taken the whole strut out of the car maybe Try putting the hexy doodad in a vicey thingo and turn the whole strut instead. :jamie: If its really tight, put a steel bar in behind the discs for some leverage. Quote
anastasios Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 also while the strut is out cut a slot in the brake line thingo, makes it alot easier to remove calipers etc in the future, without stripping nuts Quote
