G`day mate, Its a fairly big job and I don`t recomend doing it yourself unless you have a workshop manual to reffer to.

a. remove tappet cover

b. remove rocker gear

c. remove push rods.

d. remove cam followers (a magnet on a stick can sometimes be a good tool for this)

e. remove fan belt

f, remove bottom pulley

g. remove timing cover.

h. remove timing chain and cam drive gear

i. remove camshaft locking plate

j. remove camshaft.

 

You will probably have to remove the fan and radiator before you can pull the cam out of the block. Make sure that you replace all gaskets with new ones and don`t forget that the tappetts will have to be re-adjusted. Inspect the cam bearings and have them replaced if neccessary. That will require that the engine is completely stripped down to the engine block and a new set fitted by an engine builder or similar.

 

I hope that I didn`t scare you too much, but better to be prepared for everything than get a nasty suprise when you least expect it.

Also don't forget to re-face your lifters otherwise you could tear a lobe off the your new cam.

Id say MOST not all of the workshops open should be capeable of doing a cam swap on a K engine.

aren't you forgetting something??? camshafts don't want to come out with a fuel pump lever in the way!
