4AGE_Keto Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 Hey guys I really need your help to diagnose a problem. My 4AGE has been out of the car for about 1.5 years now. When it was in it all worked, now we can't get spark and the ignitor has power going to both positive and negative on my coil... Why is it doing this, is it broken or is something else stuffed. Also the ignition barrel was customised a bit so a switch was used to send power to everything and a push button installed. It has now been returned to the barrel. Pleas help me as I am trying to get the car registered again and this is really holding it up as there is only little things remaining to re regester it. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 You can't power both sides of the coil or it will never fire. Sounds like dodgy ignition wiring, Fix that and it should solve your problem.. Quote
kiahn Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 haha yeh a coil is meant to have current flow through it which creates an electro'field which creates the massive spark that ignite fuel, your just attempting to put current in at both side instead of letting it flow through. so you willl have to fix this and then it should sort that out Quote
Medicine_Man Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 It is actually the change in direction of current from the collapsing field that creates the induced EMF that makes the spark.. If you have the same potential on both sides it will never work.. Quote
Rancher Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 I wired/stuffed around with the ignition. But, there is not power going to the - on the coil. Just a white with red traced wire going to it, which was there before and some how has power on it. Should - on the coil be grounded? Should that white/red wire be going to positive? Quote
Rancher Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) Also, two wires from the gearbox aren't on. Just, sitting around. Could this be a problem as to why the coil isn't sending power? Edit. Yes, it was because of those two wires sitting around doing nothing. It's been joined together and it starts. Problem is, now it wont rev, and it barely idles. lol. Edited November 12, 2009 by Rancher Quote
4AGE_Keto Posted November 12, 2009 Author Report Posted November 12, 2009 Ok, so it fired.. ran barely, told rancher to check the timing... pulled the dizzy off checked it all over put it to almost perfect now it won't spark again and the wires to the gearbox are still connected. Why so much bloody trouble with such a little thing. Quote
Rancher Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Where are you located? Stanthorpe. 2hrs south of you. Quote
4AGE_Keto Posted November 13, 2009 Author Report Posted November 13, 2009 Yep that's the one.. Country town of stanthorpe. This damn car is just starting to annoy me. Traced the wires back to the drivers side kick panel where they went into that circuit/fuse box thing there. after that I have no idea and have since lost interest in trying to get it working. Quote
Rancher Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 She runs. Id accidentally pulled out the earth wire Id be using, and I didn't notice. Thanks to everyone who cared Quote
