I'd go for 95 octane at sea level. Robert & I can run lower octane up here in Orange because at this altitude the motors don't pink so easily.

 

It would be best to get a bit more scientific about this and fill the tank each time, zero the tripmeter and record it several times over a month or two. Depressingly, the KE70's mighty 60bhp uses fuel at almost the same rate as the Altezza's 210bhp! We're talking 8L/100km compared to 9L/100, both using 95octane.

i always use the tripmeter for times like this i notice it slowly decline that way i know i have an issue.

 

anyway ive checked the plugs, don't seem too bad. dwell is 50.7degrees and my timing is stuffed.. i knocked the dizzy when checking dwell =\ anyone have a timing light i can borrow?? blackwood area... not too keen to drive it without having timing set lol

 

also I'm replacing the fuel filter once i can get down to repco lol.

ok i fiddled a bit with the dizzy. i got it close (idled ok but every now and then it had a misfire) moved it a bit more and seems to idle fine. no hesitation, no misfires (let it idle for bout 2 mins)

 

should it be safe to drive now or should i wait until i can get a timing light on it??

You can disconnect the coil lead, turn on the ignition and turn the fan pulley to 8deg before TDC, then rotate the dizzy until you hear the spark click as it jumps.

 

Do that a few times to get it so the points just open and you hear the spark at 8deg, and that will be fine.

just tried that. and thank you HEAPS. this is the smoothest it has EVER been. revs sooooo nicely.
