Hi! I'm about to put a 2T engine into my 1982 LHD KE70 on the original crossmember. To minimize the work I would prefer to make the new engine mounts without having to lift the engine in and out of the car for measuring.

 

There must be someone which have done a similar conversion, but the question is:

Does anyone have drawings of the engine mounts they had to make?

 

Appreciate if any could take the time to measure and make some drawings, and take some pictures.

 

Buying a T crossmember is not a choice, sorry.

correct me if i'm wrong, but IIRC, the mounts are in the same forward position, just further apart, so using thicker rubber mounts should suffice.

 

it may mean the motor sits higher too. I might be dreaming tho...

The 2T I'm using comes out of a TA40 Carina, and I guess the engine block mounts original mounted on the engine is a bit different from the TE7x one. Sadly.

 

wde_bdy: Thanks for the inputs. From what I could understand the engine have to be mounted a bit forward compared to the original mounts, and about 50mm seems right. But do I have to remove the gearbox braces completly? I do have one more KE70 with 2T (on the other side of the country), and I can't remember that we had to remove them in that car?

Anyhow, the important thing is that the gearbox tailshaft gets in the right position..

this is the engine mounts i have used on a ke55 with a 2t they are valiant straight 6 mounts so if all corollas are the same in the mount area all you have to do is bolt them up no mods just use the small one in the picture i think it is the drivers side one from what i can remember on both sides i paid $30 for each brand new years ago don't know how much it would cost to ship them to norway but it is the easy way of doing the change i can't remember to much more but i think i had to change the tail sharft but i don't remember any more then that hope i helped... i have found the one i used just go hear they are $55 have a look and see if it can help with what you need to do .... http://www.valiantspares.com.au/index.php?...products_id=659 turns out it is a v8 engine mount...

would using a TA22 cross member work? as i have a spare and the TA22s run the 2/3t engines I'm looking at doing this same swap with all my 22 running gear into my 70

In my ke70 with 2t i used ta12 enginemounts and rubbers at first. but it stretched the rubber little bit so i changed those. That was bolt on. BUT the propeller shaft was little bit too long (if you use original KE70) so you have to drill that smaller hole bigger (what is in the engine bracket) and put that rubber through that so the engine comes forward just a little bit. Or use 240 volvo rubbers like i did the second time. If you use volvo rubbers, engine comes few cm forward and low. Those are eccentric and round but work fine...

 

PS.this is just the way that i did that swap, i think that there are just that many way to do that than there are people to do it ;)
