Doogs Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 hey i'm stripping my ke10 back to metal.. well i've done most of it... what did you use to get into the gutters? On my 20 I used a wire wheel on an angle grinder. A slightly worn out one is perfect, because then it fits right into the gutters. Quote

As Doogs said wire wheel! :jamie: I went and got some small ones that go on your power drill as well, work well in all the tightest spaces and seams! :jamie: Its great fun! Just make sure you wear safety gear! I had all sorts of stuff go around my safety glasses so I wouldn't try without them! Good Luck! Quote
Handiman Posted July 4, 2010 Author Report Posted July 4, 2010 Hi All! Got a few things done today! Got sick of panel work so gone mechanical. :blinks: Removed all the wiring loom in one piece! Exhaust and tail shaft out. Radiator and support panel out. Motor and box are ready to remove. :hmm: Just waiting on getting an engine crane and then I'll be getting the brake lines and steering out to go over the engine bay and clean it all up. All the old bits will be sold in the next few weeks, will only need a few of the original bits to go back in. Finally decided to do the right thing and go for full engine management. :blinks: On the look out for K E.F.I. loom and manifolds. Thanks for looking! Quote
greenmac80 Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 good work. here is my 2c. when it comes to doing cars from the ground up concentrate and knock off one thing at a time. as in stick with body work.. then do suspension.. then do engine then interior or something like that. if you start doing other bits and pieces here and there you can get lost in what your doing and even forget what you have or haven't done.. what needs doing etc. same thing for money spending. get all of your bodywork stuff including paints etcetc. then get all sussy gear and so on. meh jst my 2c. Yeah that was the plan originally....I know what your saying. But yeah just a bit impatient and Over enthused :hmm: Just want it all done! Thanks for your thoughts Always appreciated! Quote
Handiman Posted July 11, 2010 Author Report Posted July 11, 2010 Hi again! Finally got myself an engine crane, Fold up one, good when you have no space at all! :D Got the motor and box out in one piece. Anyone have an idea on how much I should sell it for? :( Helps having the radiator support out so much easier than some other cars. Now need to get all the engine bay clear and make a start on that soon. Now the search is on for the rest of the conversion stuff! :hmm: What do those 17mm nuts and the washers on the engine mounts do? :laff: You need to find new ones Teddy, Ill need mine back soon! :D Thanks for looking people! greenmac80 Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 if you have a compressor and the space. i would invest in some garnet and a gravity fed garnet gun. sandblast the engine bay. much mcuh easier and your guarenteed a clean sureface for the paint to stick to. not to mention it can get into all the nooks and krannies and clean all your rust off. Handiman Posted July 24, 2010 Author Report Posted July 24, 2010 HI Everyone! Picked up my new motor and gear box! Got a K motor and an early W series box. Test fitted and it seems to fit OK with the 3k mount on the motor. Problem is the box hits the tunnel a bit so be onto that tomorrow, otherwise seems to line up. Might get away with using the Toyoglide mount for the box? The guy reckons its got some head work done but I don't know, looks a bit bigger than the 3k but yeah. Gotta play with the A/C brackets to try mount the S/C soon too. Big week ahead, have the week off to play round and strip the old girl down till just the rolling shell left. Going to get the engine bay soda blasted, don't have the room, compressor, patience or the knowledge for doing that sorta detail the way i was doing it! Ill post during the week to see what else i find...... Bloody rust and dodgy repairs! Thanks everyone! Quote
greenmac80 Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 make sure you wash the car thouroughly after the soda. what does salt + moisture cause.?? so make sure every single bit of soda is completely gone otherwise rust will form quicksmart and in cracks and crevices that will later be a bitch to fix Quote

Any help on this is gratefully appreciated! Thanks! Might have to research what i have been told....... Quote
greenmac80 Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 a good blaster can succsessfully use garnet.. just use a very fine grade Quote
