hey all

At the moment ive been thinking of getting my hands on a ke30 of some desription to build a fairly decent street/ track car.

I want to cheap it fairly cheap until i go all out on a 4ag.

I have the ability to but a 7ke long motor (which i believe you can use the 4k bolt on gear?) would this be a good idea? i can also source a sc12 to add a bit more power.

But as the 7k has a fairly long stroke will it make much difference over a 4k apart from torque?

Second question is, i can my hands on a locked T series diff drum to drum, how much difficulty am i going to have fitting this to a ke30? and will i need a t18 drive shaft?

Third question is. I heard you can put ke30 tops on corona struts and fit the corolla's, XT130's i think, any idea's if this is true? if so that would mean i'd be running stiffer suspension, much bigger brakes and thicker springs for like $40

any help is appreciated :no2: as well as any suggestions.

Cheers :P

7k's (e or c) aren't really all that cheap, you'd probably nearly spend as much as you would on a 4age. Hence I think you'd be better off making a choice on one of them for the longer run. The 7k isn't going to be as rev happy as a 4k (or 4age) but it will have more torque and power than the 4k. If you're thinking of supercharging it then the low rpm response of the charge would work well with the 7k's torque nature. Oh and yes pretty much all 4k stuff will bolt onto the 7k.

Fitting the T series just requires cutting off the coil mounts and welding on some leaf ones, which isn't real hard at all. I think T18's had 2x piece tail shafts so you'd just be better off modding the uni/flange on the end of the stock tailshaft. I think people use T18 shafts as a "bolt in" type deal when putting a T series in a Ke70/AE71 as they basically have the same floor pan as the T18.

As for the front struts, have a search for a thread by Falken_ke30 in regards to struts. I would be a waste of a good thread like that if you don't have a search for it. :)

thanks for the response. i have the ability to but a 7k for 150.00.. in good order except for the head was taken off. is is worth the work? can i hook it up to the stock gearbox?

Is that the one up the west coast somewhere? Going rate for good condition 7k's seems to be around $700+ so you draw your own conclusions!!

And yes you can use a K50 or K40, you just need to use the 3/4k flywheel and clutch kit on the back of the 7k.

its down south mate, thinking of getting a ke20 instead now, aparently the sump has to be modified to fit corollas, is that true? will the one of the 4k fit it?

Yes either mod the sump or cross member as they'll foul. Issue is casued by the longer stroke (swinging in the sump) of the 7k.

No you can't use any other K motor sump on the 7k as the bottom of the block is also slightly wider.

does the head come with the 7k? or no head at all?

i'm not so sure but other k heads might not bolt up due to the wider 7k block? am i right here or wrong?

ok sweet as :bash: so only wider for the crank then i'm guessing?

:bash:

You can actually bolt a 3/4/5k head on a 7k. There's just 3x extra bolts on the spark plug side edge of the head on the 7k, but you could get away with not putting these in as they don't take load like the head studs.

I'm pretty sure the 7k in my KE55 is running a 3k sump... It was already on there when we got it though.

There'd be no way in hell thats the case. a 4/5k sump is deeper than a 3k one becasue of the increased stroke. 7k has a bigger stroke again so that why I can't see you having a 3k sump on it.
