ok my jay car kit is assembled but problems with the wiring!

 

I'm using a 4 pin o2 sensor

 

white - (continuity between both white wires = heating element)

white - ^^

grey - earth (continuity between grey and o2 housing)

black - signal

 

for the jay car gauge theres 12v, IN (signal) and earth

 

if i earth out the signal for the gauge, gauge shows 7. if connected to the o2 sensor. it shows 22

 

um help please?

 

edit - i connect the signal wire to the gauge and sprayed the o2 sensor with brake cleaner, value didnt change

orite Ive got 4 o2 sensors (3 wide band and a narrow)

 

threw the narrow in, went for a drive.

 

showes...

10:1 under full load

drops down to 9.1 when the gas pushed to the floor (accelerator pump)

released the gas at 100kph, dropped down to 8.5 then crept up to 9.5

 

* i have a miss at idle when i push the brake pedal, so pumping the pedal at idle = 8.1:1 *

 

with the choke on at idle 10?

 

i tried another sensor and got the same results

 

NO wonder i chew through fuel!

22 is normally the default for ambient air, so it never changes when the car is running?

i havent put it in the car yet.. just want to test it

 

but even with a good does of brake cleaner it should change?

Well it sounds fine, the o2 on the dyno used to read 20 odd when not in use.

 

Have you sprayed it when hot?

yep when hot.

 

ill install the o2 sensor and go for a drive

 

What type of sensor do you have?

 

lambda meters will shit themselves if you put fluid on them when hot, better off using gas like butane.

i borrowed it from work. i think its a lamba meter not a o2 sensor?

 

went for a drive showing 10.5 and not moving

OK, mine are VT Commonwhore ones- I grabbed the plugs and a foot of wire off the loomb as well. The wires change colour going through the plugs so you can tell left-hand bank from RH. These are the colours from one side

 

White becomes black- earth for sensor

 

Brown becomes black- earth for heater

 

Brown becomes brown/pink- 12V in

 

Purple becomes gray- signal to Jaycar unit.

 

I earthed the blacks in separate spots to stop interference.

 

The unit takes a couple of minutes driving before it activates, it just shows 'rich' before then, then suddenly figures appear.

 

If I turn it on without the motor running it shows "r" and all the bars go rich.

..and having been for a drive, if I turn the motor off the unit continues to read figures- lean ones like 17 or 18.

 

I don't know why it starts off reading rich when driving off in the morning, I suppose its because the choke it out.. :P

 

but it stays rich for a minute with the choke pushed back in until the motor wams up some more.

haha!! Its very interesting isn't it! I reckon most guys on here could up their performance and/or fuel consumption with one!

 

So- Compared to my SUs...

 

What does it show at idle? (14.7 flashing into lean)

 

What does it show at a constant 60kph? (14.7 jumping up and down about 13.5 to 15.5)

 

What does it show if you left off a fraction? (momentarily rich then leans to 16)

 

What does it show when you lift right off and are on over-run? (leans dow to 18 or 'L')

 

What does it show if you ease the throttle on? (goes from 16 to 14.0)
