LukeAE71 Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 Hi all, I am 90% through changing my 20 to manual. In the shifter switch there was 4 wires, 2 red and 2 black. If I connect the 2 red together and the 2 black together the car will crank and start no problem. The only issue is that my reverse lights are permanently on. If I disconnect any of these combinations the car won't crank at all. If I connect red to black the car will crank with the key in the 'on' position which is not going to work. I tried searching but time is not of the essence at the moment!! Can anyone who has done this help?? Otherwise I will be disconnecting my globes in the reverse lights..... Quote
jono1986 Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 Ok, sounds like when you connect a red to a black your putting a feed directly in the starter circuit which will start the car when the red gets power ('on' position). You need to test which wire gets power when you hit the starter and align that up to the black that makes the car start in the on position. One of the red wires should have power all the time so connect that onto each black wire to see which one is the reverse lights and then just go from there. I'm in Adelaide to so if you need a quick hand i'm happy to come up. Quote
philbey Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Ke10 not 20 but in mine Luke, the two black (with White stripe) wires were the kill for the ignition circuit (P or N to start), I simply connected these two with a little jumper, no problem. Lets not talk about all the time I spent chasing wires looking for a short LOL.... I would have thought yours was the same, with the other two wires being a) lighting illumination and b) reverse switch, both with a connection to ground. Quote
bass4you Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 I'm with Philby on this one if you check out your old auto shifter which makes it eisier to identify which is which in regards to the reverse switch wire and the illumination and the switch that is activated only when in the park or neutral positions, don't forget the reverse switch wiring from the shifter has to be rerouted to the manual gearbox reverse switch or else your reverse lights wont work I did this on my ke25 years ago when I changed it from auto to manual hope this helps cheers graeme Quote
LukeAE71 Posted September 14, 2010 Author Report Posted September 14, 2010 I'd obviously been working on the car for too long the day I tried to do this. Had another go at it last night, and it's quite simple really. The two black wire (with white stripe) need to be connected together so it will crank. The red wires are for the reverse lights which I will wire up to the manual box when I get a minute. They make no difference to the car cranking. Thanks for your replies guys - certainly helped. Quote
jono1986 Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 ah....it's the same as my 35 then.... Quote
SLO-030 Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 Had the same on my 30 as a previous owner had swapped to manual and left the auto shifter switch tucked under the carpet. Wired the reverse lights into the gearbox and ran the starter circuit wires thru a switch. No crank without pushing said switch. Quote
