SLW42 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Hi guys this is blowing me away i hate electrics and it has always stumped me, but i have a 5k in a ke70 at the moment and i am trying to get the coil to spark so i can fire it up, i have put on all the wires i can think of and there is no power to the coil or from it so what do i look at, am i missing a wire or is it just not getting power for a reason, i don't have a test light so i can't do everything with a test light unfortuneatly Quote
Evan G Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 just run a wire from the postive side of the battery to the postive side of the coil. make sure the dwell (contact points) are set correctly Quote
SLW42 Posted September 12, 2010 Author Report Posted September 12, 2010 Would it be just a shit earth? Quote
jono1986 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Coil gets earthed through the distributor, so unless your points are stuffed i'd look into a missing power feed. Are all your fuses intact? Quote
SLW42 Posted September 12, 2010 Author Report Posted September 12, 2010 (edited) Yeah all the fuses should be fine, just another thing there has to be a wire coming from the dizzy to the neg or positive side of the coil? EVAN - i tried the wire from positive battery terminal to pos coil it just arched out Edited September 12, 2010 by SLW42 Quote
jono1986 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 (edited) Correct, The wire coming from the distributor should go to the negative side of the coil. And the feed from the Ingition and Ballast resistor goes to the positive side of the coil. Edited September 12, 2010 by jono1986 Quote
Evan G Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 neg side. make sure ur gettign 12v at the postive side with ignition on Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 If it shorted out when you touched battery +ve to coil +ve, then either the coil is blown and earthing out, or the power went all the way to the distributor and earthed out through the points just like it should. Quote
SLW42 Posted September 12, 2010 Author Report Posted September 12, 2010 Got it sorted lads thanks for all your help i had the wire from the coil to the dizzy on the positive side of the coil causing it to short so now i have changed it to the neg side and it fired the 1st sign of life in a year guys yewwwwwww Quote
