Sam_Q Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 wow hectic, looks really interesting, incomplete I assume? unless I am missing the sight of a chain from the front. I see you used a friction drive for the motor, neat and simple. Quote
Trev Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 You need to ignore the electric motor as this was an experiment to try to make a petrol/electric hybrid. It worked well but getting a reliable speed controller was a bitch, so I removed it and went back to pedals wow hectic, looks really interesting, incomplete I assume? unless I am missing the sight of a chain from the front. I see you used a friction drive for the motor, neat and simple. Always wanted to get onto the HPV team at high school as they had 2 teams but I changed schools and the school I changed to didn't have any. Quote
coln72 Posted November 23, 2010 Author Report Posted November 23, 2010 This event didnt exist when I was in Tech School, started the year after I left >| Used to run a HPV team a few years ago but sorta got pissed off with the attitudes of some of the teams. It was like they were playing for sheep stations, with all the agro that went with that. Also, HPV's are now a formular event. You use this bit and that bit, throw on this blokes canopy, train the shit out of your kids for 8 months and you go fast. For me that is boring. Hybrids are a lot more "mad scientist". Very few schools are alike. Hell, even our schools two hybrids are totally differet. They still use the same motor, same rear wheels and tyres, and both use a friction drive and pedals but that is where the similarities stop. Both of us have our own ideas we are developing and trialling. Quote
Sam_Q Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 I also wish I could of done such a thing, but it's been a long time since I was in school. Oh well I guess it's not so bad as I am making slow but somewhat steady progress on my next trike Quote

emptycoffin Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 Hah, I did this three years in a row (Ringwood Secondary College). We ran the two power source races (Ran a 50cc bike motor and a 24v elec motor. Spent the whole year in Tech: Auto prepping for it. We were always known for "Bodging" things and at the end of my second year our three wheeler had rolled, bent/snapped the electric motor gear on the wheel so we haxsawed that off, ripped off all the panels, held the thing together with tape and sent it back out for the last 15 minutes (with the right rear wheel mounting snapped! (Also not to mention zero brakes.) Serious amounts of fun. Quote
