Indicator flashers don't work if the voltage on the battery is even slightly low.

The indicators still work. Its just that if i indicate Left, the LHS bulb flashes brightly and the RHS bulb flashes too (but at about half brightness). The high beam light also flashes.

I have just swapped engines, so i assume it has to be something related to that. I hope its not coincidental that something in the rear wiring has gone wrong.

I am about to go to the wreckers to get another gauge panel, just eliminate that mine is dodgy. (from memory my spare one had a problem with it, that is why i changed it years ago).

Just a thought. Does the oil pressure sensor need to be earthed properly? At the moment i have some teflon tape on the thread to help it seal.

If i run an earth to the sensor from the battery, it allows the oil pressure light to come on.

yes it needs to be earthed...usually just earths itself out on the engine block.

Cheers. I just discovered that either the teflon tape or my aftermarket adapter for a speco gauge sensor was not completly earthing properly.

Thats that problem solved.

Now to work out why my tail light fuse keeps blowing, and why my indicators are all messed up.

The Crisis Is Over!!!!

Long story short is that i don't exactly know what caused all these problems in the first place. However i re-soldered a few connections on the dash circuit board and ran an earth wire from an earthing screw on the circuit board to a bolt on my firewall.

This has solved my problems relating to my dash lights resembling a christmas tree.

The oil pressure light failing to work appeared to be just a bad earthing. This may have been caused by some teflon tape, or my aftermarket adaptor that allows me to run both a speco electric sensor gauge and the standard sensor. Thats all fixed now.

I also have spark back. I checked over a few old engine bay photos and noticed a discrepency in the wiring. I had a standard 4k with points ignition in the car whilst the 5k was being rebuilt. I didnt wire it up properly when i put the 5K back in with the electronic ignition. (next time i will label all the wires, like i used to when i first started playing around with corolla's).

Now all i have to do is run in the Cam and then start to run the engine in. I can't be bothered doing it now though. It was a nice day down here in Melb and i was looking forward to a nice cruise to run her in.

Thanks once again for everyones input. Your thoughts and advice are most appreciated. :D

This day keeps getting worse for me. Fortunately its almost over.

I cranked the car over to get oil pressure up (with spark plugs out). Then i topped up the oil level ...................not noticing that i hadnt installed the plugs again. So now cyl 1 and 2 have about an inch of oil in them. 3 and 4 also have a small amount to.

I cranked it over to pump some oil out and have been dipping paper towel in there. I started to get thoughts of sacrificing a Vacuum cleaner on it. But wisely i decided to pack it in for the day and think this one through.

P.S. Yes my bonnet and front gaurd are dripping in oil from where it shot the oil out. :D

also a large syringe with some vacuum tubing attached to the end is a very handy tool.

Excellent Idea. I'll have to make a trip to a chemist tomorrow.

It sure beats a vacuum :D
